This kind of use, alternating between high revs and extended idling, puts the turbocharger under considerable strain, particularly when oil-change intervals are not followed closely. On the 120 d fitted with the N47D20C engine, the turbo plays a key role in managing intake pressure and engine responsiveness, whether in urban traffic or on the motorway.

Compatibility of the new turbo with the BMW Série 1 120 d

This new turbo is compatible with reference 49335-00521, intended for the 120 d engine – a 1995 cm³ diesel unit with engine code N47D20C. Before placing an order, we strongly recommend checking this reference directly on your vehicle's existing turbo, as several variants exist depending on the year and power output.

Equivalent references

49335-00511

49335-00512

49335-00521

49335-00531

49335-00550

49335-00560

49335-00561

49335-00580

49335-00581

49335-00582

49335-00585

49335-0550

Exchange basis and warranty for your Série 1

This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of the old turbo is required. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your BMW Série 1 is not left off the road any longer than necessary. The turbo is covered by a 12-month parts warranty, provided fitting is carried out by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments – pay in up to 10 instalments.

Advice before and during fitting on the 120 d

On the N47D20C engine, turbo failure is most commonly caused by a lubrication fault: poor-quality oil, missed oil changes, or a clogged oil filter. A blocked air filter or a dirty intercooler can also disrupt turbo operation and accelerate wear. Before fitting, check the condition of the oil circuit, ensure the hoses are clean, and confirm there are no foreign bodies in the air intake. When starting the engine for the first time, prime the oil circuit to prevent dry running on initial start-up, and drive gently for the first few kilometres.

Check engine oil quality and level before installation

Inspect the air filter and intercooler

Prime the oil circuit before the first start-up

Avoid hard acceleration immediately after fitting

This same turbo also fits

New BMW Série 3 Turbo – Ref. 49335-00521

New BMW X3 Turbo – Ref. 49335-00521

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0656/9161/5317/files/turbo-echange-standard_75805e3e-c846-4043-906e-66bc727df167.png?v=1790813774
