Reconditioning follows a rigorous process: the gearbox is fully stripped down, every component is cleaned and inspected, and the gears, synchros, bearings and seals are replaced according to the wear found. The unit is then reassembled to manufacturer tolerances before undergoing a bench test. This final stage ensures that the GS6-45DZ-TH6G performs to original factory standards, whether for urban driving or long motorway runs typical of the 3.0d.

Signs that your 6-speed manual gearbox needs replacing

Several warning signs point to wear on this 6-speed manual gearbox: increasingly stiff gear changes, a crunch when selecting second or third, a gear jumping out while driving without any input on the lever, unusual resistance when engaging reverse, or a bearing noise audible in neutral. On this model, a vibration felt through the gear lever during hard acceleration in the 3.0d can also indicate advanced internal wear requiring replacement.

Exchange basis: immediate delivery, deferred return

This gearbox is sold on an exchange basis: it is rebuilt to 0 km and dispatched immediately, without waiting for the old unit to be received first. The garage is therefore never left without a gearbox, and the vehicle is not off the road while waiting. The old gearbox, with its casing intact, is only collected after the reconditioned unit has been delivered and fitted, so as not to delay the job. Return of the old unit is nonetheless required, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions.

Compatibility

This reconditioned gearbox is compatible with engine codes M57D30, 306D2, 306D3 and 306D5 fitted to the BMW 5 Series 3.0d.
