Checking the engine warning light with a diagnostic tool, visually inspecting the turbine (axial and radial play, carbon deposits), verifying oil pressure and examining the boost hoses will help rule out secondary causes before ordering a part. On this model, an unusual whistling noise under acceleration, blue smoke from the exhaust or a gradual loss of power are all tell-tale signs of a worn turbo.

Compatibility of the reconditioned turbo with the Volkswagen Passat 1.8T

This turbo fits the Volkswagen Passat 1.8T with engine codes AEB, ANB, APU and AWT. It is a turbocharged 1.8-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine, fitted to both saloon and estate versions of the Passat. Before placing an order, it is strongly recommended that you check the reference stamped on your old turbo or on the engine plate, as several turbo variants were used on this engine depending on the power output and generation of the vehicle.

Exchange and warranty for this Passat turbo

This reconditioned turbo, compatible with reference 53039880005, is sold on an exchange basis: return of your old turbo is required, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. The return only takes place after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted to your Passat, so the vehicle is not left off the road during the process. The part comes with a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments, in up to 10 instalments.

Fitting advice for the 1.8T engine

On this turbocharged petrol engine, lubrication is the primary factor in longevity: use an engine oil that meets the manufacturer's specifications and adhere strictly to the oil change intervals. Before fitting, check the oil circuit (feed and return hoses), the cleanliness of the air filter and the condition of the intercooler, as contaminants or a cracked air intake will accelerate turbine wear. When starting up for the first time, prime the turbo with oil before the initial start to ensure the bearings are immediately lubricated as soon as the circuit comes up to pressure.

Check the exact reference on the old turbo before ordering

Inspect hoses, the air intake and the intercooler

Prime the oil circuit before starting the engine

Drive gently after fitting

This same turbo also fits

Reconditioned Audi A4 Turbo – Ref. 53039880005

Reconditioned Audi A6 Turbo – Ref. 53039880005

Reconditioned Volkswagen Sharan Turbo – Ref. 53039880005

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0656/9161/5317/files/turbo-echange-standard_6bf62c2a-36d2-49c9-9159-2c94f408b94e.png?v=1790810357
