Let's start with the Carens produced between 2000 and 2002. The petrol-fuelled models with a 1.8L engine are equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission for 110hp. On the other hand, 130hp minivans can be delivered with a 4-speed auto transmission or a 5-speed manual transmission. Kia also offered LNG engines. The 108hp 1.8L and 123hp 2.0L Carens 1.8L were also available with a 5-speed BVM and 4-speed BVA.

In 2002, the first generation improves. A 105 hp 1.6 petrol engine appears, accompanied by a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.8L version now has 126 hp and offers a choice between a 5-speed BVM and a 4-speed BVA. The 2.0 petrol engine, whose output has been increased to 138 hp, is only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. On the diesel side, the 2005 Kia CarensGearbox and other models produced between 2002 and 2006 are available in a 4-speed automatic version and a 5-speed manual gearbox to accompany the 113hp 2.0 CRD engine. No changes are made to the Carens transmissions that run on liquefied natural gas.

The second generation of Carens is coming out in 2006 with 5 seats as standard and 7 as an option. A 5-speed manual transmission is available on the 126-hp 1.6 CVVT and 144-hp 2.0 CVVT. The 4-speed automatic transmission is available on the 144-hp 2.0 CVVT and 140-hp 2.0 CRDi engines. New for this generation of Carens, a 6-speed BVM is also available for the diesel engine.

From 2013, all gearboxes will have 6 gears. They are manual on the 1.6 GDI 135 hp and 2.0 GDI 166 hp engines. The automatic transmission is available with the 2.0 GDI 166 hp petrol block. The 115 hp 1.7 CRDi engine will arrive in 2016, combined with a 6-speed manual transmission. Later, the 141-hp 1.7 CRDi ISG marks a new advance, since it comes with a 7-speed automatic transmission.
