Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014, it continues to win over women, city dwellers and young people alike. Its squared-off lines and iconic grille make it a veritable style icon.
Compact and robust, the Renegade is reliable and its transmission is ready for adventure. However, its mechanics are not infallible. EDEN BOITES guides you to understand how it works and how to repair your Jeep Renegade gearbox.

What sets Jeep Renegade gearboxes apart?
Under the hood of the SUV a wide range of petrol and diesel diesel engines is available. These are mainly developed by Fiat, and range in power from 110 to 170 hp to meet the needs of versatile use without excessive fuel consumption. The latest development, in line with market trends, is a 130 hp 1.5 petrol unit combined with an electric motor.
The transmission is available in two-wheel or all-wheel drive. two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The latter, called Active driveallows the rear axle to be disconnected, or torque to be locked at the same level for each axle. Four operating modes are available: automatic, sand, mud and snow. So you're sure to feel right at home in all conditions!
Five phases of modification were carried out to perfect the elegant Jeep Renegade. These evolutions also concern the gearboxes 5- or 6-speed manual, 6-speed robotized, 6- or 9-speed automatic, and DDCT dual-clutch.
What are the main differences between Jeep Renegade gearboxes?
Since its release in 2014, 3 main types of gearbox have been fitted to this model of vehicle.
5- or 6-speed manual gearbox
The driver selects the desired gear using the gearshift. A clutch system (disc and flywheel) connects and disconnects the engine from the transmission. Shifting gears involves matching engine speed to the rotation of the gearbox input shaft. This is when the the synchros come into play and modulate the cadence for smooth gear engagement.
Dual-clutch transmission
Two separate clutches manage even and odd gears. There is no pedal to control gear changes: an electronic electronic control software software. DDCTs are unique in that they can use either dry clutches, which operate in the open air, or wet clutches, which are immersed in an oil bath.
TCT9 and BVA9 automatic transmissions
A torque converter transfers the driving force to the transmission. Gear shifting is controlled by the valve body, itself managed by electronic control software which selects the desired gear according to driving conditions. A planetary systemcomposed of several gears and pinions, multiplies torque and selects the various combinations.
What can I do if my Jeep Renegade gearbox breaks down?
If you notice an unusual noise, a gearbox oil leak or a change in navigation behaviour, act quickly! Repair costs can vary greatly depending on the severity of the problem.
The first step is always to have the problem diagnosed by a qualified mechanic. Depending on the extent of the damage, the repair may involve replacing parts such as the clutch, synchros, pinions, torque converter or valve body. In some cases, a simple oil change or adjustment of the electronic control software may suffice.
If your Jeep gearbox gearbox is severely damaged, a complete exchange may be necessary. This is the most expensive option, but it's also the only one that will bring your vehicle back to life. An economical alternative is reconditioning. In this case, all parts are inspected and replaced if necessary.
