110 years separate the Fiat Tipo from its ancestor. Indeed, it was in the 1910s that Italian carmaker Fiat wrote the first pages of the Tipo story. At the time, this car marked the transition to the industrial era, to the production car already announced by Ford, and to the construction of Europe's largest factory, the Lingotto.

Gearbox broken? We help you identify and order your model
Despite the robustness of the Fiat Tipo gearbox, its driver is not immune to unforeseen breakdowns: EDEN BOITES Fiat Tipo, a specialist in this field, can help you with maintenance and repairs.
How to maintain your Fiat Tipo gearbox?
Identify and understand the type of transmission on the Fiat Tipo
From the moment it goes on sale, the Fiat Tipo can be specified with an exclusively internal combustion engine (petrol, diesel or dual-fuel petrol LPG) or with a 1.5 Firefly 130hp + 48v hybrid electric motor.
The manual gearbox is available in a five-speed version on the 1.3 MULTIJET 95 CH S&S 4P, or a six-speed version on the 1.6 MULTIJET 130 S/S LIFE BUSINESS. The automatic gearbox is also available on many versions, with up to seven speeds, as on the 1.5 FIREFLY TURBO 130 S&S HYBRID DCT7.
As with most compact cars, the transmission is front-wheel drive.
Drive smoothly
Smooth driving is characterized first and foremost by careful attention to the environment, i.e. pedestrians and other motorists. This attitude enables you toanticipate outside movements to avoid sudden acceleration or braking which could damage the gearbox.
Whatever the type of gearbox, it's important to handle it gently: aggressive driving accelerates wear on the transmission system. For manual gearboxes, the clutch pedal and gearshift lever should be engaged gradually. For automatic gearboxes, it is essential to bringthe vehicle to a complete stop before selecting Park or Reverse.
Perform recommended checks
Don't hesitate to regularly check the level and appearance of your gearbox oil: this is done using the dipstick generally located on the side of the housing. The level should be as close as possible to the highest mark for optimum lubrication of transmission parts.
Gearbox oil changes are recommended every 60,000 kilometers for automatic gearboxes and from 250,000 kilometers for manual gearboxes.
My gearbox seems to be malfunctioning: what can I do?
Recognize signs of failure and seek expert advice
The most frequent signs are as follows:
- Unusual noises: buzzing, whistling, clicking, etc. ;
- A smell of burning;
- Resistance to or inability to shift gears;
- A sensation of jumping gears;
- A general drop in vehicle power.
When one or more of these signs appear, don't delay in seeking theadvice of a mechanic to avoid damage that may be irreversible. The more detailed your observations are, the faster the expert will be able to diagnose the problem accurately and reliably.
Depending on the problem identified, he'll suggest appropriate repairs, such as replacing certain parts (bearings, SPI seals, clutch, etc.) or changing the transmission oil. Sometimes, unfortunately, the damage is so severe that the Fiat Tipo gear box has to be completely replaced.
