• Clutch wear is indicated by a hard-to-engage pedal, slipping when starting or vibrations in neutral.

The importance of transmission oil

Sometimes, these warning signals can simply be a sign that the gearbox oil level is too low. This relatively simple operation involves the following steps: 

• Check the gearbox oil temperature after driving for a few minutes, so that the engine is warm and the oil more stable. This temperature should be between 35 and 45°;
• Gently remove the dipstick and wipe with a clean cloth;
• Immerse the dipstick in its container, then remove it again to observe the two marks symbolizing the minimum and maximum amount of oil required;
• Check that the current oil level is between the two marks: if not, obtain the gearbox oil recommended by Peugeot for your type of vehicle;
• Check the condition of seals, as wear may lead to oil leakage.

Be careful when replacing or changing oil: gearbox oil (or transmission oil) and engine oil are two very different products.
