How is the Kia Picanto transmission organized?
When it was launched in 2004, the Picanto came with two engine options: petrol and diesel. From the second generation onwards, the gasoline engine is the only one available, but it is available with different power ratings: the 1.0 MPI 69 hp, the 1.2 MPI 85 hp, the 1.0 MPi 67, the 1.2 MPi 84 and the 1.0 T-GDI 100.
Regardless of the type of gearbox, transmission is at the front wheels: this is a front-wheel-drive transmission. The Picanto's 1.0 66 ACTIVE 5P and 1.0 T-GDI 100 ISG GT LINE BUSINESS are equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox. The automatic gearbox has up to four speeds, as on the 1.2 MPI 84 X LINE BVA4.
What is a transmission oil change?
Over time, gearbox oil becomes loaded with metal particles from the use of gears, and gradually loses its lubricating properties for the parts making up the transmission. This operation is recommended every 60,000 kilometers for automatic gearboxes, and from 250,000 kilometers for manual gearboxes: in fact, the latter do not necessarily require periodic oil changes, as manufacturers consider that lubrication is sufficient for the entire life of the vehicle.

- Unscrew the drain plug and allow the used oil to drain into the drain pan;
- Place a hose and funnel over the filler cap to pour in the new oil, then close the cap;
- Drive for a few minutes in a few gears to make sure the gear changes smoothly;
- Take the old oil to an authorized collector for disposal.
How can a Kia Picanto gearbox be repaired?
