Easily Repair Your GearboxDACIA | Standard Exchange

All you need to know to repair a Dacia gearbox

Since its creation, the Romanian brand Dacia has positioned itself wisely in the affordable vehicle segment. However, the manufacturer does not neglect the quality of its mechanical components, with longevity and functionality being at the centre of its concerns. This means that the chances of encountering a problem GearboxDacia Dokker or a transmission fault in another model are relatively low.

There are many symptoms that can indicate a breakdown. In some cases, hissing or cracking noises can be heard. Sometimes a burning smell from the transmission floats around in the cabin. Oil stains in the wake of your vehicle or in areas where you park should also alert you. Of course, the inadequacy of the gears selected by an automatic system or difficulties in manipulating a mechanical system should alert you.

More generally, gearbox faults affect the behaviour of your Dacia. As soon as suspicious signs appear, common sense will lead you to plan the necessary checks. When the deterioration is significant, it is generally preferable to replace the faulty component in order to ensure long-term reliability.

Which model should I choose if I need to buy a Dacia gearbox?

Like all car manufacturers, Dacia is diversifying its transmission systems. This is a strategic choice that ensures the compatibility of the system with the type of engine and power of the vehicle. You must therefore formally identify the type of transmission in your car to avoid any confusion that could harm the car's performance.

To find out the Gearbox Dacia Sandero price, you need to know what type of transmission you need. The Dacia Sandero gearbox is initially a 5-speed manual model. If you are interested in the Gearbox Dacia Sandero 1.5 dci or the Gearbox Dacia Sandero 1.4 mpi, for example, it is invariably a BVM5 that you will need to research. After the second update, the model received BVA5 as an option on the 0.9L TCe 90 bhp and 1.5L dCi 90 bhp blocks.

You may have a problem with the Dacia Sandero gearbox on the latest model. Please note that the Gearbox Dacia Logan petrol is a BVM5 on the 1.0L SCe 65 and 1.0L TCe 90 engines. The Dacia CVT gearbox is also available with the TCe 90 block. If you are interested in the Gearbox Dacia Sandero LPG + petrol, your search will lead you to a BVM5. The Stepway version comes with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a Dacia Sandero CVT, depending on whether the vehicle is powered by a TCe 90 or Eco-G 100 engine block (dual-fuel petrol + LPG).

Initially, the Gearbox Dacia Logan 1.4 mpi 75 bhp, the Gearbox Dacia Logan 1.5 dci 68 bhp and the one with the 16V 1.6L 87 bhp block are BVM5. The Gearbox Dacia Logan 1.6 mpi 105 bhp is a BVM6. From 2008 onwards, Dacia chose to limit the options to a 5-speed manual gearbox. In 2016, a 5-speed automatic gearbox is offered as an option, with the BVM5 remaining the standard transmission. Since 2020, the Dacia Logan gearbox has been available in three variants: a BVM5 associated with the 1.0L SCe 65 engine, a BVM6 which supports the 1.0L TCe 90 block and the Eco-G 100 unit, as well as a CVT transmission available with the TCe 90 engine.

The Dacia Logan MCV gearbox is a 5-speed manual as standard. Since 2016, a 5-speed automatic gearbox has been available as an option with the 0.9L TCe 90hp and 1.5L dCi 90hp engines.

Remember to change your Dacia Logan gearbox regularly in order to protect the mechanical components from excessive clogging, which would automatically impair the car's performance.

It is still possible to find a Dacia Dokker gearbox even though the combispace is no longer in production, especially as the transmission has remained virtually the same over the years. More concretely, the different versions of this vehicle all have a mechanical 5-speed gearbox.

The Dacia Duster gearbox is a BVM6 found on the Eco-G100 and TCe 130 petrol engines. In diesel, the gearbox coupled with the Blue Ci 115 4×2 Gearbox Dacia Duster 4×4 is also a BVM6. The new Dacia Duster EDC 6-speed automatic gearbox is available with the TCe 150 4×2 engine.

In earlier versions, the Duster had more engine options, which went hand in hand with a wider range of gearboxes. When it first left the factory, the small SUV was delivered with a 5 or 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, depending on the engine. Following a makeover, the BVM5 has disappeared, making way for a BVM6 as standard and a BVA6 as an option for the 1.5 dCi FWD 110 bhp unit. In 2017, the BVM5 returns to support the 1.6L SCe 115 bhp and 1.6L SCe LPG 115 bhp groups. BVM6 is retained as standard transmission for the rest of the range. The optional BVA6 associated with the 1.5 dCi FWD 110 hp engine also remains in the running.

If you own a van, you may need a Gearbox Dacia Lodgy. A BVM6 is coupled to the 1.5 dCi 110hp engine unit. The other versions of the family van come with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.

The Dacia family is obviously not limited to these models, but the principle is the same each time: when a model evolves, the type of gearbox that equips it may change. Similarly, the standard and optional transmissions can change with each model and generation.

How to proceed with a Dacia gearbox repair?

It is not always necessary to go to shop to buy a new gearbox is not always required. However, only a reliable garage can confirm whether the gearbox is repairable or whether it needs to be replaced. Before coming to such a conclusion, the professional will have to evaluate the defective part from every angle. This is a thorough diagnosis, which may or may not be quick, depending on the type of fault and the type of gearbox in your Dacia.

The first step in the repair process is to understand what is preventing your gearbox from performing its full function. Your help is invaluable because the mechanic needs to know the symptoms that are causing you to have your vehicle checked. Clearly explain all the anomalies that you have noticed. Without being exhaustive (nor limited to the models given as examples), the following are common indicators of a Dacia Logan gearbox problem:

  • difficulties encountered during a manoeuvre due to the resistance of the transmission system;
  • oil leak Gearbox Dacia Logan 1.5 dci identifiable with lubricant stains on the wake and/or parking areas of the vehicle;
  • jumping gears ;
  • suspicious noises: creaking, squeaking, whistling, etc. when you use the gearbox;
  • inappropriate gear selection on a Dacia Dokker automatic gearbox;
  • burning smells ;
  • reports that refuse to engage ;
  • etc.

Make an appointment for the second stage, which will be carried out by a professional. Based on the information you have given him, he will carry out visual checks and a series of tests. This thorough examination helps to understand what is causing the gearbox to malfunction and automatically helps to identify the repair options to be considered.

In some cases, removal is necessary. Once the gearbox is removed from your vehicle, it can be inspected more carefully. As this is a complex operation, it is logical that the diagnosis takes a relatively long time.

Once the garage has formally identified what is wrong with your gearbox, it can draw up a quotation that specifies all the operations to be carried out. It is common for the purchase of a replacement gearbox to be mentioned in the quotation, but you are not obliged to accept. Indeed, vehicle owners are entitled to order the replacement products themselves. You just have to make sure that you respect the reference number indicated to guarantee the compatibility of the part with the characteristics of your Dacia.
