Signs that your gearbox needs replacing

On an Audi TT 2.0 TDI, several symptoms point to advanced wear on the 6-speed manual gearbox: crunching when selecting second or third gear, difficulty finding neutral when the engine is warm, juddering during gear changes, a gear lever that becomes stiff or imprecise, or vibrations felt through the lever whilst driving. A low, continuous drone in neutral with the engine running can also indicate internal bearing wear. These signs generally point to worn synchromesh rings or gear teeth and warrant replacing the gearbox before a gear drops out completely.

Gearbox reconditioning process

Exchange basis – delivery before return of the old unit

This gearbox is sold on an exchange basis. The reconditioned unit is delivered first, so the garage is never left without a gearbox and the vehicle does not need to be off the road during the repair. The old gearbox, with its casing intact, is only collected after the reconditioned unit has been delivered and fitted. Return of the old unit is required, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions.
