The Peugeot engine code determines the exact part: a gearbox, engine or turbo is not interchangeable between closely related codes

On a Peugeot vehicle, two engines with identical capacity and quoted power output may require entirely different parts depending on their engine code. A 1.6 HDi 115 hp carrying the code 9HC is not equivalent to a 9HR or a 9HX, even if the commercial description looks similar. Likewise, a 1.2 PureTech 130 hp may correspond to the codes HNP, HNS, HNV, HNY or HNZ depending on the model and year of manufacture: the reconditioned part is referenced by code, not by power output. Before anything else, locate your engine code on the identification plate or in the manufacturer's documentation.

The code families to know by engine type

The 2.0 HDi covers one of the most extensive families in the Peugeot catalogue: codes RHE, RHF, RHH, RHK, RHR, RHS, RHY, RHZ, DW10BTED4, DW10CTED4, DW10FC, DW10FD and more, spanning power outputs from 84 to 180 hp across the generations. The 2.2 HDi offers comparable variety with codes 4HH, 4HV, 4HU, 4HG, 4HM, DW12RUD, DW12RUE found notably in the Boxer, the Expert and the 807. The 1.6 HDi ranges from codes 9HX, 9HY, 9HZ (DV6ATED4 and DV6TED4 generations) through to the 9HC, BHX, BHZ of the 115 and 120 hp versions. On the 1.5 BlueHDi, the codes DV5RC, DV5RUC, DV5RD, DV5RE cover power levels from 75 to 131 hp: a single code may serve several power outputs, and conversely the same power output may correspond to several codes depending on the year.

Gearboxes, engines and turbos: what the Peugeot collection covers

The collection covers three part families — engines, gearboxes and turbos — across 27 models ranging from the 106 to the Boxer, from 1991 to 2026. Available gearboxes include 5- and 6-speed manuals, as well as the automated manual gearboxes BMP5, BMP6, 2-Tronic and ETG6. The BMP5, BMP6 and equivalent automated manual gearboxes are sold without the actuator or control unit; please check this point if your fault is electrohydraulic in origin. Engines are supplied as bare units. Turbos are available in new or reconditioned versions depending on the reference. The Boxer accounts for the largest share of the catalogue, followed by the 308 and the Expert: these models benefit from the greatest number of referenced engine codes and therefore the best availability of exchange parts.
