Engine families and identification pitfalls

The 1.5 dCi diesel covers the majority of Qashqai, Juke and NV200 models, with engine codesK9Kavailable in numerous variants (K9K282, K9K400, K9K408, K9K410, K9K430, K9K636, K9K646, K9K896): two vehicles that look identical can carry different codes depending on the year of production, and the associated gearbox will not be the same. The 2.0 dCi (M9R, M9R692, M9R710, M9R714, M9R780, M9R782) is fitted to mid-generation X-Trail and Qashqai models, while the 2.3 dCi (M9T, M9T670, M9T700, M9T702, M9T870, M9T890, M9T898, YS23DDT, YS23DDTT) is the engine block for the heavy commercials NV400, Primastar and Interstar, paired with reinforced 6-speed gearboxes dimensioned for high gross vehicle weights. The 2.5 dCi (G9U, G9U630, G9U632, G9U650, G9U720, G9U724, G9U750, G9U754, YD25DDTi) covers the Primastar, Cabstar and Navara, and the 3.0 dCi (ZD30, ZD30DDTi) is reserved for the Patrol and Pathfinder in heavy-duty specification. On the petrol side, the 1.2 Turbo (HR12DDT, HRA2, HRA2DDT) and the 1.6 Turbo (MR16DDT) are found on recent Juke and Qashqai models; the 1.3 Turbo (HR13DDT) appears on the most recent Qashqai generations. Narrowing your search by model

The Qashqai is the most represented model in this collection, with several generations covering diesel and petrol engines and 5- or 6-speed gearboxes depending on the model year. The NV400, Primastar and Cabstar share architectures closely related to the Renault Master and Trafic commercials of the same generation, which can sometimes lead to reference mix-ups: the engine code remains the reliable criterion. The Patrol and Pathfinder, used intensively off-road, place greater demands on the gearbox synchronisers and bearings; the typical symptoms are difficult gear changes on the lower ratios after use under load. For models produced between 1988 and 2024, the collection covers 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and Quickshift gearboxes, available on an exchange basis or as a rebuild of your own unit, depending on the reference.
