A Defender in agricultural service, a Discovery loaded up for a long journey, a Freelander used regularly off-road, or a Range Rover Evoque driven daily in an urban environment: these uses have nothing in common, yet they share the same mechanical demands. Land Rover engines endure severe thermal cycles, heavy loads, and often deferred maintenance. When a block gives out, accurately identifying the engine specification is everything.

Five engines, six codes: the distinctions you must not mix up

The collection covers diesels produced between 2007 and 2024, centred on five main engines: 2.2 TD4, 2.2 TDCi, 2.4 TDCi, 2.5 Tdi and 2.0 D. These similar engine capacities conceal distinct engine families.
