Reconditioned Ford engines: from the 1.8 TDCi of the early 2000s to the 2.0 EcoBlue of recent generations, the engine code takes priority over engine capacity

On the Transit and Focus in particular, a single commercial designation — for example 2.0 TDCi — covers up to around ten distinct engine codes: G6DA, G6DB, G6DC, QXBA, T7CE, UFBA… each corresponding to a specific architecture or generation. Ordering on the basis of engine capacity alone is the first trap with this brand. The code stamped on the block — visible on the engine plate or in the vehicle's documents — is the only reliable criterion for identifying the correct reconditioned bare engine.

Engine families and key points to watch by generation

On the diesel side, the range covers the main Ford families from 1998 to 2025: the 1.4 TDCi (codes 8HR, 8HZ, F6JA, F6JB) fitted to the Fiesta and Fusion in the early 2000s, the 1.8 TDCi (FFBA, KKDA, QYBA, RWPA among others) widely used in the Focus, C-Max and Mondeo throughout the 2000s, the 2.4 TDCi (D2FA, JXFA, PHFA…) fitted to the Transit up to the mid-range, and the 3.2 TDCi five-cylinder (ENSA, SA2R, SAFA) reserved for the heavy-duty Transit and Ranger. The 2.2 TDCi illustrates Ford's complexity on its own: more than thirty distinct codes (4H03, CVF5, CYFB, DRFF, P8FA, QVFA, SRFA, UHFA…) are spread across the Transit, Tourneo and Galaxy depending on the year and power output. The 2.0 EcoBlue is progressively replacing the 2.0 TDCi on recent models with a new family of codes (BC2X, BKFA, YMCB, YNF6…): the two engines coexist in the Transit catalogue and are not interchangeable.

Petrol: EcoBoost and Ti-VCT, two very different approaches

The petrol units fall into two clearly distinct families. The naturally aspirated Ti-VCT units — 1.25 (SNJA, SNJB, STJB), 1.4 (SPJA to SPJD), 1.6 (HXDA) and 2.0 (AOBA, AOWA, N4JB) — are fitted to the Fiesta, Focus, B-Max and Mondeo across a wide range of years. The turbocharged EcoBoost units represent a significant technical step change: the 1.0 EcoBoost three-cylinder (B7DA, M1DA, M1JA, SFJC, YYJA…) is found in the Fiesta, Focus, C-Max, B-Max and EcoSport; the 1.5 EcoBoost four-cylinder (M8DA, M9DA, UNCE, UNCI…) delivers higher power outputs in the Focus, Kuga and S-Max. These EcoBoost units are known for lubrication issues related to the oil circuit under certain operating conditions — a point to check during diagnosis before replacement. All engines in this range are offered on an exchange basis as bare engines.

    Frequently asked questions

How much does a reconditioned Ford engine cost?

The price depends on the engine and the exact reference, and is always well below the price of a new part. For an exact price for your vehicle, enter your number plate or request a free online quote.

Is this Ford engine compatible with my exact model?

We offer 287 references covering the main Ford models. Compatibility is checked against the engine / gearbox code: give us your number plate and we will confirm the exact engine for your vehicle.

What is the difference between new, used and exchange?

A used part is resold as is, with no work done. An exchange unit is an original engine rebuilt in our workshop, inspected and guaranteed for up to 24 months: reliability close to new, at a used-part price.

What do the warranty and delivery include?

A warranty of up to 24 months, an invoice with every part, return transport arranged for collecting your old unit, delivery throughout Europe and payment in up to 10 instalments.
