A fully loaded family MPV: which reconditioned engine can genuinely handle the demands?

The Galaxy is a seven-seat MPV built for heavy loads, long journeys and often high mileages. This kind of use puts the engine under very different stresses than a compact saloon: sustained motorway revs, an engine that rarely gets a rest, and mechanical strain amplified by the vehicle's weight. When the block gives up, replacement covers three distinct engine variants across the 2006–2015 period: the 1.8 TDCi, the 2.0 Ti-VCT and the 2.0 EcoBlue. Each belongs to a specific generation and carries engine codes that are not interchangeable.

1.8 TDCi: ten engine codes – don't mix them up

This is the most widely represented engine in the range, with ten distinct engine codes: 18DIT, FFBA, HCPC, KKDA, KKDB, QYBA, QYWA, RWPA, RWPC, RWPD. This variety reflects the successive updates made to the diesel block throughout the Galaxy's production life. The same model year can carry different codes depending on the market or specification. Before placing any order, the engine code stamped on the block is the only valid identifier — engine capacity alone is not enough to determine which block matches your vehicle.

2.0 Ti-VCT and 2.0 EcoBlue: petrol across two generations

The 2.0 Ti-VCT petrol engine comes in four codes — AOBA, AOBC, AOWA, N4JB — corresponding to different power outputs or calibration variants. The 2.0 EcoBlue diesel, the latest-generation unit, carries just one code, YMCB, which makes identification straightforward. All engines listed here are bare engines: ancillaries (turbo, alternator, starter motor) are not included and must either be transferred from the original block or replaced separately.
