Citroën Turbos from the DW10TD to the DV5RC: Thirty Years of Engine Codes to Find the Right Part

On a Citroën, the engine code stamped on the block is the essential starting point before searching for any turbo. The same model — C4, Berlingo, C5 — may have been fitted with several different engines over the same period, and two engines of identical capacity do not necessarily share the same turbo. The 2.0 HDi alone comes in several variants: RHY / DW10TD for the 90 hp, RHM, RHT, RHZ for the 107 to 110 hp versions, RHH for the 163 hp, RHE, AHR for the 150 hp — distinct codes, distinct turbos, not interchangeable with one another.

Diesel: From the 1.4 HDi to the 2.2 HDi — Engine Families and Identification Pitfalls

The 1.6 HDi accounts for the greatest variety of engine codes across the Citroën range. The 75 and 90 hp versions carry DV6ATED4 or DV6B; the 109–112 hp versions move to DV6C, DV6TED4; references 9HJ, 9HP, 9HS, 9HY, 9HZ cover several power outputs of the 1.6 HDi depending on the generation. The move to the 1.6 BlueHDi (codes 9HC, 9HD, BHX, BHZ, BHY, BHS, BHV, BHW, 9HK, 9HN) introduces a different variable geometry: a BlueHDi code is not interchangeable with its HDi equivalent of the same stated power output. The 1.5 BlueHDi — very widespread on the C3, C4 Cactus and Berlingo — comes in DV5RD, DV5RE, DV5RCF and YH01 for the 75 to 102 hp versions, and DV5RC for the 130–131 hp: two closely related families that are nonetheless not interchangeable. The 2.2 HDi (C8, Jumper) uses codes 4HU and 4HV; the 2.8 HDi Jumper is based on the 8140.43S. The 1.4 HDi (Nemo, C1, Berlingo) carries 8HS, 8HT or DV4TD depending on the power output (54 to 70 hp): here again, power output alone is not enough to identify the correct part.

Petrol Turbo: 1.2 PureTech / THP and 1.6 THP — Symptoms and Identification

The 1.2 PureTech / THP (C3, DS3, C4 Cactus) is represented here in 110 and 130 hp versions. Codes EB2DT, EB2DTS, EB2ADT, EB2ADTS and the HNP, HNS, HNV, HNY, HNZ family cover these power outputs, but the match between engine code and turbo reference depends on the exact generation of the engine. This block is known to be sensitive to lubrication quality: the turbo oil feed pipe can become clogged and the bearings can wear if the oil has degraded or service intervals have been exceeded. On the 1.6 THP (DS3, DS4, C4), codes EP6DT, EP6FDT, 5FR, 5FV correspond to the 150 to 165 hp variants. The classic symptoms of a failing turbo on these engines — whistling, blue smoke under acceleration, a marked loss of power or the vehicle entering limp mode — should always prompt investigation of the root cause (oil pressure, condition of the lubrication circuit, diesel particulate filter) before any replacement is carried out: fitting a reconditioned turbo without addressing the underlying cause will lead to rapid repeat failure. The collection covers thirteen Citroën models, with new and reconditioned turbos available depending on the reference.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

It depends on the reference: each product page states whether the turbo is new (straight sale, nothing to send back) or reconditioned (exchange basis), together with the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Citroën.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

Only for a reconditioned turbo, sold on an exchange basis: you return your old turbo after the new one has been delivered and fitted, and we arrange the collection. A new turbo is a straight sale: nothing to send back, one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Citroën?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
