New turbo or rebuilding your own unit: which should you choose for a Suzuki?

Across the Suzuki range covered here — Vitara, Swift, SX4 and Grand Vitara — all available turbos are sold new as a straightforward sale, with no old unit to return. This applies to all diesel engines and to the 1.4 Boosterjet petrol. This sales method suits the majority of situations, but rebuilding your own unit can make sense when the reference is rare, unavailable new for your engine, or when the original turbo features a specific variable geometry that is best kept identical. This is an option worth considering in particular for older versions of the 1.9 DDiS or 1.3 DDiS, where certain manufacturer references can be difficult to source.

Four models, several engine families: the identification pitfalls

The 1.9 DDiS is shared across several Suzuki models and is based on the F9Q engine of Renault origin, with at least three code variants (F9Q264, F9Q266, F9QB) depending on the version and power output (129 or 130 hp). These codes are not interchangeable from a turbo standpoint: checking the code stamped on the engine is essential before placing any order. The 1.3 DDiS (codes D13A / D13AA, Swift and SX4) and the 1.6 DDiS 120 hp (code D16AA, Grand Vitara) are two distinct families despite their shared diesel lineage: their turbos and associated references are different. The 2.0 DDiS 135 hp (recent Vitara) and the 1.4 Boosterjet (code K14C, petrol, Swift and Vitara) are the two most recent additions to the range.

Symptoms and causes not to overlook before replacement

On Suzuki diesel engines, the most common causes of failure are linked to lubrication quality (degraded oil, a clogged oil circuit, delayed pressure build-up) and to intake fouling. The classic symptoms — whistling, blue or black smoke, loss of power, limp mode — do not always mean the turbo alone is at fault. On the 1.4 Boosterjet K14C, the geometry and bearings can be affected by oil that has not been changed frequently enough. Addressing the root cause before fitting the new turbo is essential: a turbo fitted to an engine whose original problem has not been resolved will be damaged quickly, regardless of the quality of the part installed.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Suzuki.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Suzuki?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
