The Dacia turbo operates under conditions that the engine capacity alone doesn't reveal

A loaded Duster on rough tracks, a Lodgy in seven-seat family configuration, a Sandero or Logan used intensively in urban and suburban driving: Dacia models accumulate demanding duty cycles for small, heavily stressed engines. The 1.5 dCi endures repeated heat spikes with frequent idle phases — a classic condition for turbo bearing lubrication breakdown. The 1.2 TCe and 1.0 TCe, small turbocharged petrol engines, are equally susceptible to the same thermal stresses. Before any replacement, identifying and addressing the root cause of the failure — carbon build-up, degraded oil, an air leak on the intake line — is essential; fitting a new or reconditioned turbo to an engine whose original problem has not been resolved will lead to a second failure.

K9K: one block available in dozens of variants, each with its own distinct turbo

    The 1.5 dCi is the core engine of the Dacia range, but behind that single name lie very different engine code families depending on power output and model. The 65 and 68 hp versions cover codes K9K 700, K9K 702, K9K 708, K9K 710, K9K 714, K9K 716, K9K 740, K9K 752, K9K 768, K9K 790, K9K 792, K9K 800 and K9K 840. The 75 and 90 hp versions correspond to codes K9K 608, K9K 609, K9K 626, K9K 628, K9K 630, K9K 892 and K9K 894 — with, for the 90 hp only, codes K9K 612 and K9K 627 in addition. The 109 and 110 hp versions, including the 4x4 variant of the Duster, carry codes K9K 666, K9K 846, K9K 856, K9K 858, K9K 896 and K9K 898. Each of these groups takes a specific turbo: OEM and equivalent references vary, and a code mix-up will result in a geometric or connection incompatibility.

Petrol TCe: two families, three power outputs, non-interchangeable turbos

On the petrol side, two architectures coexist. The 1.2 TCe is available in 115 hp (codes H5F 400, H5F 402, H5F 403, H5F 408, H5F 412) and 125 hp (codes H5F400, H5F402, H5F404, H5F408) — the codes partially overlap, but the turbos are not identical across power outputs: only the engine code stamped on the block allows the correct reference to be selected. The 1.0 TCe (90, 100 and 101 hp LPG), found in particular on recent generations of the Sandero and Logan, uses a fixed-geometry turbo specific to the H4D code, entirely distinct from the H5F family. These TCe engines are particularly sensitive to oil quality and service intervals: a reconditioned or new turbo fitted without flushing the oil feed line will not last.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

It depends on the reference: each product page states whether the turbo is new (straight sale, nothing to send back) or reconditioned (exchange basis), together with the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Dacia.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

Only for a reconditioned turbo, sold on an exchange basis: you return your old turbo after the new one has been delivered and fitted, and we arrange the collection. A new turbo is a straight sale: nothing to send back, one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Dacia?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
