Which turbo for a Kia engine: 18 engine codes, an identification that leaves no room for guesswork?

The answer comes down to two criteria: the engine code stamped on the block and the exact power output of the variant, as several codes coexist within the same engine capacity with different turbos. Across the Kia range, eight models are affected — from the Rio to the Sorento — and every turbo listed here is a brand-new part, sold without exchange.

CRDi: when the same code conceals several turbos

The CRDi diesel family is the most widely represented, with blocks D4FA, D4FB, D4FC, D4FD, D4EA, D4HA, D4HB, D4CB, D3FA covering engine capacities from 1.1 to 2.5. Two pitfalls come up time and again. First pitfall: the D4FB code is fitted to both the 1.6 CRDi (110, 115 and 128 hp) and certain versions of the 1.4 CRDi — the turbo differs depending on the power output, so the manufacturer reference is essential. Second pitfall: the 2.0 CRDi covers codes D4EA and D4HA, two distinct architectures fitted to the Sportage and Sorento depending on the generation; the D4EA also exists in a D4EA-F variant on the 2.0 CRDi 140. The 2.5 CRDi (code D4CB) on the Carnival and Sorento shares its code with the 2.5 CRDi 170, but the turbo references differ. Before placing any order, cross-referencing the engine code with the rated power output and the OEM reference is the only reliable method.

Petrol turbo: T-GDI and GDI, two different approaches

Turbocharged petrol engines span two families. The 1.0 T-GDI (100 and 120 hp) is fitted to the Rio, Venga and Picanto with codes G3LC, G3LE, G3LF — three codes for two power outputs; the distinction between G3LC and G3LE or G3LF must be verified on the engine plate. The 2.0 T-GDI (Theta 2) on the petrol Sportage and the 1.6 T-GDi 177 (G4FJ) on the Ceed GT make up the two remaining petrol entries in the catalogue. On these high-pressure direct-injection engines, the quality and consistency of lubrication directly determines turbo service life: degraded oil or a clogged circuit is the leading cause of bearing failure. Classic symptoms to watch for: gradual loss of power, blue smoke on start-up or under hard acceleration, abnormal whistling under load. Addressing the root cause before fitting the replacement is essential to avoid damaging the new part.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Kia.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Kia?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
