A new turbo designed for the versatile use of the Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage is a family SUV frequently called upon for mixed driving: town, A-roads and motorways, sometimes with a significant load (luggage, light trailer, large family). This type of use, alternating between idling in urban traffic and brisk acceleration on open roads, puts the turbocharger under considerable strain – particularly on the 2.0 GDI petrol engine fitted with the Theta block. Driving that involves rapid rev increases followed by immediately switching off the engine, without any cooling-down period, accelerates wear on the bearings and the forced-induction system.

Compatibility with the Sportage 2.0 GDI engine

This new turbo is compatible with reference 28231-2G420 and applies to the 2.0 GDI petrol engine (engine family Theta, Theta 2, 2L-THETA2, 6AT4WD) fitted to the Kia Sportage. Before placing an order, please check the exact reference printed on your old turbo or on your vehicle registration document, as certain versions of the Sportage may be fitted with different turbos depending on their trim level.

Exchange basis and warranty

This turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of your old turbo is required. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so that your Sportage is not off the road any longer than necessary. The product is covered by a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting being carried out by a qualified professional. Payment for your order can be spread over several instalments, up to 10 instalments.

Symptoms and advice before fitting

A loss of power under acceleration, unusual exhaust smoke, a pronounced whistling noise, or abnormal oil consumption are common signs of a worn turbo on the 2.0 GDI engine. The main causes of failure are insufficient lubrication, poor-quality engine oil or neglected oil changes, a clogged air filter, or a cracked intercooler hose. Before fitting the new turbo, check the condition of the oil circuit, hoses and air intake, and remember to pre-lubricate the turbo with oil before starting the engine for the first time, to ensure immediate lubrication of the bearings.
