From the 8140.43 of the earliest Ducato to the TwinAir 0.9: the Fiat turbo range has spanned four decades of radically different engine architectures

The collection covered here starts with the fixed-geometry diesel turbos fitted to the8140.43blocks of the Ducato 2.8 TD/TDI (115 and 122 hp) and the first-generation 1.9 JTD — engine codes182 B9.000, 188 B2.000, 223 A7.000, 223 B1.000, 223 B2.000, M724.19— right through to the far more recent architectures of the 0.9 TwinAir petrol engine and the 2.3 Multijet on light commercial vehicles. This technological leap means the turbos involved share virtually nothing in common: a simple mechanical wastegate on the older blocks, variable-vane geometry on several Multijet units, and an electronic actuator on the TwinAir. Identifying the correct part therefore requires precise knowledge of the engine generation — not just the engine capacity.

Recurring identification pitfalls across the Fiat range

The 1.3 Multijet is a perfect illustration of the difficulty: fitted to the Punto, Panda, Fiorino, Doblo and 500, it comes in outputs ranging from 75 to 95 hp depending on the year and market, with distinct engine codes —199 B1.000, 225 A2.000, 312 A8.000, 312 B1.000, 312 B2, 312 B5.000, 330 A1.000— and turbos that are not interchangeable between versions. The same logic applies to the 0.9 TwinAir: codes312 A2.000, 312 A4.000, 312 A5.000, 312 A6.000, 312 A7.000(60 to 86 hp) and199 B6.000, 199 B7.000(versions from 78 to 105 hp, including Natural Power) correspond to different turbo references despite an identical engine capacity. On the 1.4 T-Jet, three families coexist — code198 A1.000for the 135/150/160 Abarth,199A8000for the 155/180 hp 16V,198 A4.000 and 940 B7.000for the 120 hp — with differing boost pressure levels and oil housings.

Symptoms and failure causes to be aware of before replacement

On the TwinAir, the small forced-induction engine places considerable strain on the bearings at low revs; degraded oil or extended service intervals accelerate wear of the CHRA. On the 2.3 Multijet (Ducato, Scudo — codesF1AE0481N, F1AE3481D, F1AGL411), EGR circuit fouling and a blocked DPF are among the leading causes of variable-geometry turbo failure: the vanes seize, power drops progressively, and the vehicle eventually enters limp mode. Addressing the root cause — EGR, DPF, oil circuit — is essential before any replacement, whether that is a reconditioned exchange turbo or a new unit. The range offers both options depending on the reference.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

It depends on the reference: each product page states whether the turbo is new (straight sale, nothing to send back) or reconditioned (exchange basis), together with the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Fiat.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

Only for a reconditioned turbo, sold on an exchange basis: you return your old turbo after the new one has been delivered and fitted, and we arrange the collection. A new turbo is a straight sale: nothing to send back, one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Fiat?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
