Renault Turbo: does the right turbo hide behind the engine code rather than the engine capacity?

Yes — and that's the first trap with Renault engines. Take the 1.5 dCi: the turbo varies depending on the power output and the variant of the K9K block. A K9K 700 (65 hp) does not take the same unit as a K9K 836 (110 hp), even though both displace 1.5 litres. The K9K block alone runs to dozens of variants in this range, and mixing up a 90 hp version with a 110 hp one leads to a direct incompatibility. The same logic applies to the 2.0 dCi: codes M9R 630, M9R 692, M9R 780 to M9R 788 correspond to the 90 and 114 hp variants, while M9R 650, M9R 710 to M9R 717 cover the 160 and 200 hp versions — two distinct turbo families that are not interchangeable.

Petrol turbos: H5F, H4B, D4F — three families, three pitfalls

On the petrol side, the range covers TCe blocks fitted to the Clio, Mégane, Captur, Kadjar and Twingo. The H5F is the most branched family: codes H5F 400 to H5F 412, plus the H5FT, are spread across the 1.2 TCe in 100, 116, 120 and 132 hp outputs — a stated power figure alone is not enough to identify the turbo; you need the exact code. The D4F (780 to 786) fits the 1.2 Turbo 100 hp and 1.2 TCe 101/102 hp, found in particular on early Clio III models. The H4B covers the 0.9 TCe 90 and 109 hp (H4B 400, 401, 409, H4BT 401), an engine fitted to the Twingo III and Clio IV. On petrol units, reconditioned turbos sit alongside new turbos depending on the reference: always check the type before ordering.

Diesel light commercials: Master, Trafic, Mascott — don't mix up the 2.3 and 2.8 blocks

The Master is the most represented model in this range, with 2.3 dCi engines spanning a wide spread of power outputs (100 to 179 hp) and M9T codes. Note: M9T 670, 672, 676 and 870 correspond to the 100 to 125 hp versions, M9T 706 and M9T 716 to the 135, 150 and 180 hp versions — the turbo is not the same. On older generations, the 2.8 DTI (codes S9W, S9W 700, S9W 702) and the Iveco 8140 blocks (8140.23, 8140.43B, 8140.43S) are fitted to the Master and Mascott: two distinct families that must not be confused. Before any replacement, identifying the root cause of the failure — oil circuit contamination, a blocked EGR, or an air leak on the intake circuit — is essential to prevent the same fault recurring on the newly fitted unit.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

It depends on the reference: each product page states whether the turbo is new (straight sale, nothing to send back) or reconditioned (exchange basis), together with the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Renault.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

Only for a reconditioned turbo, sold on an exchange basis: you return your old turbo after the new one has been delivered and fitted, and we arrange the collection. A new turbo is a straight sale: nothing to send back, one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Renault?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
