Dacia diesel and petrol engines: two engine families, a vast range of variants

The Dacia range is built around two clearly distinct engine philosophies. On one side, the 1.5 dCi K9K: a diesel unit covering the Duster, Lodgy, Logan, Dokker and Sandero from 2004 to the present day, available in around twenty different engine codes — K9K612, K9K628, K9K658, K9K714, K9K716, K9K724, K9K792, K9K802, K9K808, K9K820, K9K858, K9K892, K9K898, K9K_666, K9K_796, K9K_856, K9K_896. On the other, a petrol family split across four engine capacities — 0.9 TCe, 1.0 TCe, 1.2 TCe and 1.3 TCe — each with its own distinct blocks and codes, none of which are interchangeable.

The K9K: a shared block across all models, but not a universal one

This is the classic pitfall with Dacia: two vehicles fitted with a 1.5 dCi can take completely incompatible blocks. Power output (75, 85, 90, 110 hp) and production year alone are not enough to identify the correct block — only the engine code stamped on the block is definitive. On the Duster in particular, several K9K variants follow one another depending on the generation and market, with significant internal differences. The most common symptom on this block remains failure linked to sludge build-up or oil pressure issues, often made worse by delayed servicing.

Petrol TCe: four engine capacities, four code families

The 1.2 TCe H5F (codes H5F-400 to H5F-412) is fitted primarily to the Sandero and Logan in their most common petrol versions. The 0.9 TCe H4B (H4B_408) is a turbocharged 3-cylinder found on entry-level models. The 1.3 TCe H5H (H5H_470, H5H_494) powers the latest generations of the Duster and Sandero. Finally, the 1.0 TCe H4D (H4D_480) is a naturally aspirated 3-cylinder block not to be confused with the 0.9 TCe despite a similar engine capacity. Each family uses its own architecture: an H5F block cannot be substituted for an H5H, even on an identical model. Checking the engine code is essential before placing any order. These engines are available as a bare engine, on an exchange basis, or rebuilt to 0 km depending on the references in stock.

    Frequently asked questions

How much does a reconditioned Dacia engine cost?

The price depends on the engine and the exact reference, and is always well below the price of a new part. For an exact price for your vehicle, enter your number plate or request a free online quote.

Is this Dacia engine compatible with my exact model?

We offer 53 references covering the main Dacia models. Compatibility is checked against the engine / gearbox code: give us your number plate and we will confirm the exact engine for your vehicle.

What is the difference between new, used and exchange?

A used part is resold as is, with no work done. An exchange unit is an original engine rebuilt in our workshop, inspected and guaranteed for up to 24 months: reliability close to new, at a used-part price.

What do the warranty and delivery include?

A warranty of up to 24 months, an invoice with every part, return transport arranged for collecting your old unit, delivery throughout Europe and payment in up to 10 instalments.
