Six Skoda models, ten engines: what everyday use demands of the engine block

From the Fabia city car covering 25,000 km a year in urban traffic to the Octavia family car on the motorway, via the Yeti or Kodiaq under load, Skoda engines are exposed to very different wear profiles. A Fabia 1.2 used intensively in urban cycles builds up injector fouling and timing wear that the same engine fitted to an Octavia in mixed use never experiences. The Roomster, often loaded like a light van, places a constant thermal strain on the block. This pattern of use directly determines the condition in which an engine arrives at end of life — and the nature of the replacement required.

Identifying your engine precisely: the pitfall of multiple codes

Across the Skoda range, a single engine capacity can cover up to eleven distinct engine codes: the 2.0 TDI alone spans codes BMM, BMP, BMR, CBDA, CBDB, CEGA, CFHB, CFJA, CUNA, CUPA and DTSB. These codes are not interchangeable: they correspond to different technical generations, power outputs and architectures. The same logic applies to the 2.0 TSI with codes AXX, BPY, CAWB, CCZA, CHHA and CHHB, and to the 1.9 TDI with AVQ, BRU, BSU, BSW and BXJ — a block that powered mainly the first generations of the Octavia and Fabia between 1996 and the early 2010s. The engine code is stamped directly on the block and remains the only reliable reference when ordering a reconditioned engine on an exchange basis.

Petrol and diesel families: key points to watch by engine

The 1.8 T 20V blocks (codes AJQ, APP, AQA, AUM, AUQ), found in the early Octavia, are well known for oil consumption issues caused by worn piston rings and valve stem seals. The 1.8 TSI (code CDAA) shares with other TSI blocks of the same generation a susceptibility to oil dilution and premature timing chain wear. On the diesel side, the 1.6 TDI (CLHA, CRKB, DBKA, DCXA, DDYA, DDYB) gained fitment across the Fabia and Octavia from 2009 onwards and have well-documented weaknesses in the belt-driven timing system under intensive urban use. The older 1.4 TDI (BNM, BNV) blocks are fitted mainly to the Fabia and Roomster and suffer primarily from head gasket failure at end of life. The engines in this collection span the years 1996 to 2024 and are available as a bare engine, on an exchange basis, or as a full rebuild to 0 km on your own unit, depending on the codes available.

    Frequently asked questions

How much does a reconditioned Skoda engine cost?

The price depends on the engine and the exact reference, and is always well below the price of a new part. For an exact price for your vehicle, enter your number plate or request a free online quote.

Is this Skoda engine compatible with my exact model?

We offer 55 references covering the main Skoda models. Compatibility is checked against the engine / gearbox code: give us your number plate and we will confirm the exact engine for your vehicle.

What is the difference between new, used and exchange?

A used part is resold as is, with no work done. An exchange unit is an original engine rebuilt in our workshop, inspected and guaranteed for up to 24 months: reliability close to new, at a used-part price.

What do the warranty and delivery include?

A warranty of up to 24 months, an invoice with every part, return transport arranged for collecting your old unit, delivery throughout Europe and payment in up to 10 instalments.
