A 1.9 DDiS Jimny and a 1.9 DDiS Grand Vitara: the same engine?

Not necessarily. This is the classic pitfall with the Suzuki range: the same diesel capacity can conceal different engine codes depending on the model and production period. In this collection, the 1.9 DDiS is referenced as F9Q on certain versions, whilst the 1.5 DDiS is based on the K9K 700 — a shared Renault-Nissan block, but whose exact variant differs according to the year and configuration. Likewise on the petrol side, the 1.3 VVT (code M13A) and the 1.6 VVT (code M16A) are two entirely separate families, both found on the Swift and Vitara between 2004 and 2018, with no interchangeability whatsoever. Before ordering, the engine code stamped on the block takes precedence over any other indication.

Four models, two ranges, six engine codes not to mix up

The collection covers the Swift, the Grand Vitara, the Jimny and the Vitara, in diesel (DDiS: 1.3, 1.5, 1.9, 2.0) and petrol (VVT: 1.3, 1.6). The diesel blocks are mostly the result of partnerships with Renault or GM/Opel — the 1.3 DDiS corresponds to the Y13DT, and the 2.0 DDiS to the DW10ATED4 / RHW (PSA family). This variety of suppliers means each block has its own specific technical characteristics: keeping the families straight is essential to ensure compatibility.

Points to watch depending on how the vehicle is used

The Jimny and Grand Vitara are used off-road, sometimes in demanding conditions: the diesel blocks in these versions, particularly the 2.0 DDiS, can show accelerated wear on the timing system and turbo if oil changes are infrequent or mud repeatedly enters the intake. On the petrol M13A and M16A versions, timing alignment is a systematic check point during reconditioning. All engines offered here are bare engines: ancillaries, turbo, alternator and starter motor are not included and must be inspected separately before refitting.
