1.4 HDi: 100% diesel, but from 54 hp to 70 hp, the turbo geometry and its thermal demands are not the same

Unlike other engine capacities that mix petrol and diesel on the same page, the 1.4 HDi is exclusively diesel. This consistency does not, however, make identification straightforward: three power outputs coexist — 54 hp, 68 hp and 70 hp — and they do not all share the same turbo reference. At lower power outputs, the boost pressure and exhaust gas temperature demands differ from those of the 68 hp and 70 hp versions, resulting in distinct actuator and geometry specifications depending on the version in question.

Engine codes not to be confused: DV4TD, DV4TED, 8HS, 8HT and 2WZ-TV

The PSA Group's DV4 family comes in several codes: DV4TD, DV4TED, 8HS, 8HT. The code 8HS appears in the documentation sometimes linked to the DV4TED designation, sometimes on its own, across different engine variants: it is essential to cross-reference the code stamped on the block with the vehicle's actual power output before placing any order. The code 2WZ-TV corresponds to the Toyota version of this same block, found on the Toyota Aygo and the Citroën C1 — two vehicles built on the same platform. The code 8HT appears only on the 54 hp variant: if your vehicle shows this code, your search must remain focused on this specific engine.

Vehicles concerned and key points to watch with this block

This engine is fitted to compact cars and light commercial vehicles — Citroën Berlingo, Citroën Nemo, Peugeot Bipper, Citroën C1, Toyota Aygo — a wide variety of uses that involve very different thermal cycles. On light commercials with short cycles and frequent stops, turbo lubrication is put under particular strain: degraded oil or an overdue service interval accelerates bearing wear and causes oil feed blockages at the CHRA. Classic symptoms include a whistling noise under acceleration, persistent blue smoke, or a loss of engine response. Addressing the root cause — oil quality, intake circuit sealing, particulate filter condition — is essential before any replacement.
