Why does the turbo fail on the Citroën C3 1.6 HDi?
On the Citroën C3 fitted with the 1.6 HDi diesel engine, the turbo comes under particular strain in urban use, with short journeys and frequent stops that prevent the oil from reaching operating temperature and cause the lubrication passages to clog up gradually. Infrequent oil changes, the use of oil that does not meet manufacturer specifications, a blocked air filter or a cracked intercooler are all common causes of premature turbo failure on these engines. Revving the engine hard immediately after a cold start, or switching the engine off straight after sustained acceleration, also accelerates wear on the turbo bearings.

This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of the old turbo is required; however, it is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted to the C3, so your vehicle is never off the road unnecessarily. The part carries a 12-month parts warranty, subject to fitting by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over multiple instalments, up to 10 instalments.
Fitting advice for the C3 1.6 HDi
Before fitting the new turbo, it is advisable to check the condition of the oil circuit, the feed and return hoses, the air intake and the intercooler, to avoid any repeat failure. When starting the engine for the first time, priming the turbo with oil is recommended to ensure correct lubrication from the very first engine revolutions.
