Signs of a worn turbo on your Citroën C4 1.6 HDi

On a Citroën C4 fitted with the 1.6 HDi 90 or 92 hp engine, a failing turbo often makes itself known through a loss of power under acceleration, an unusual whistling noise from under the bonnet, blue or black smoke from the exhaust, and excessive engine oil consumption. An engine warning light on the dashboard may also accompany these symptoms. If you notice any of these signs on your C4, it is advisable to have the turbocharger checked promptly to prevent the fault from worsening.

Exchange basis and warranty on the C4

This turbo is sold on an exchange basis: in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, return of your old turbo is required. It is only collected after the new turbo has been delivered and fitted, so your C4 is not left off the road. The part comes with a 12-month parts warranty, provided fitting is carried out by a professional. Payment can be spread over up to 10 instalments.

Advice before and after fitting

On the DV6ATED4 engine, turbo lifespan is heavily dependent on the quality and frequency of oil changes, the condition of the air filter, and the correct functioning of the intercooler. Before fitting the new turbo, check the oil circuit, hoses and air intake to rule out any cause of premature failure. On first start-up, remember to prime the oil circuit to ensure immediate lubrication of the turbocharger bearings.
