Turbo Citroën C4: from the DV6ATED4 of the early HDi to the EB2 PureTech – what the engine code changes

On the C4, the engine code stamped on the block is the essential starting point before ordering any turbo. Two vehicles showing the same power output can carry turbos with entirely different manufacturer references depending on the generation or block variant. The 1.6 HDi engines are the clearest example: the DV6ATED4 (90–92 hp) has nothing in common with the DV6C or the DV6TED4 (110–112 hp), and these in turn differ from the codes 9HR, 9HY, 9HZ which cover 109 to 112 hp depending on the engine line fitted. The same care applies to the standalone 1.6 HDi 110: codes 9HY and 9HZ appear here too, but in a different fitment context.

2.0 HDi and BlueHDi: three codes for two generations of power output

The 2.0 diesel engines on the C4 are split between codes RHC, RHE and RHH for the 150 and 163 hp variants, and AHR, RHE and RHH for the HDi/BlueHDi 150 and 160 hp versions. The codes RHE and RHH appear in several entries: the manufacturer reference for the turbo then depends on the exact context (rated power output, model year). The 1.8 HDi 150 uses codes 4N13 and 6HZ – a standalone engine that shares no references with the 2.0 units.

Petrol THP and PureTech: EP6, EB2 and 5GF – three distinct families

On the petrol side, the C4 covers three families of turbocharged engines. The 1.6 THP units use codes EP6DT (150 hp) and EP6FDT (150, 156 and 165 hp): these 2 codes are not interchangeable. The 1.6 PureTech 180 introduces code 5GF – a distinct architecture with its own turbo. The 1.2 THP and PureTech engines are split between EB2DT and EB2DTS (110 and 130 hp, intermediate-generation C4) and EB2ADT and EB2ADTS (110 and 130 hp, next-generation C4): same engine capacity, same stated power output, different turbo references. On these small fixed-geometry three-cylinder engines, a blocked particulate filter or degraded oil are among the most common causes of turbo failure; the underlying cause must be identified and rectified before any replacement is carried out, otherwise the new part will be lost. The 1.5 BlueHDi 110 (codes 5WZ-HV, 5WZ-TV, YHS) and the 1.6 BlueHDi 100 (code BHY) complete the diesel range with their own references. All turbos offered in this collection are new and sold without any unit to return.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Citroën C4 Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Citroën C4 Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
