1.5 BlueHDi: 18 distinct engine codes for a single engine capacity, and the turbo does not follow the same development path depending on whether the unit is rated at 75, 100, 110, 120, 130 or 131 hp

The PSA Group's 1.5 BlueHDi did not arrive as a single, unified family. The DV5 range was first rolled out in low-output (75 hp) and mid-range (100–102 hp) calibrations before the 130 and 131 hp versions came to account for a growing share of vehicles on the road. This progressive power increase brought with it a proliferation of engine codes: DV5RCF, DV5RD, DV5RE, DV5RC, DV5RUC, DV5RUCD under the standard PSA nomenclature, alongside the Stellantis codes YHW, YHY, YHR, YHS, YHV, YHX, YHZ, YHP, YH01 and the codes 5WZ-HV, 5WZ-TV specific to certain versions. It is these codes — not the stated output alone — that make it possible to identify the correct manufacturer reference.

Why the stated power output is not enough to identify the turbo

A given power output — 100 or 102 hp, for example — can correspond to several different engine codes depending on the vehicle and its production period. The Citroën Berlingo, Citroën C4 Cactus, Citroën C3 and Peugeot Rifter all share the same 1.5 BlueHDi engine capacity but do not necessarily carry the same code under the bonnet. Equally, the 130 hp versions encompass both DV5RC, DV5RUC and DV5RUCD codes as well as several YH codes, which do not consistently point to the same references. The 110 hp version, less common in this parc, is based on the 5WZ-HV and 5WZ-TV codes, which are distinct from all other entries. Identifying the engine code stamped on the block is the essential starting point before searching for any reference.

Failure causes and points to watch on this engine family

On the 1.5 BlueHDi, turbo failures typically present as white or black exhaust smoke, a characteristic whistling noise under load, or a loss of power accompanied by the activation of limp-home mode. The most well-documented causes on this engine family are lubrication breakdown — oil left in service too long or a blocked oil circuit — and fouling linked to the diesel particulate filter or EGR system. Fitting a new turbo without having identified and resolved the root cause risks another premature failure. All turbos listed on this page are brand new and sold outright: no old unit is required to be returned.
