The 208 puts its turbo under more strain than the average city car

Used mainly in town, the Peugeot 208 racks up cold starts, short journeys and prolonged mid-range revs — precisely the conditions that wear a turbo out fastest. The oil does not always reach its optimum temperature before the engine is switched off, the CHRA bearings and seals absorb repeated thermal cycles, and deposits build up more quickly in the lubrication circuits. On a versatile city car like the 208, turbo replacement often comes sooner than expected.

Diesel: three engine families, three distinct turbos

The 1.5 BlueHDi 100/102 (engine codes DV5RCF, DV5RD) uses a variable-geometry turbo specific to this generation of engine; it is not interchangeable with those fitted to earlier 1.6 HDi units. The 1.6 HDi 75 and 1.6 BlueHDi 100 (engine codes 9HK, 9HN, BHS, BHV, BHW, BHY) and the 1.6 HDi 115/120 (engine code 9HR) share the same engine capacity but have different turbo references depending on power output. The engine code stamped on the block remains the essential identification criterion to avoid ordering the wrong part. On these diesel engines, a blocked EGR circuit or DPF accelerates wear on the turbo bearings; rectifying these root causes before fitting is key to the longevity of the new turbo.

Petrol: 1.2 PureTech and 1.6 THP — very different behaviour

The 1.2 PureTech and THP engines (engine codes HNP, HNS, HNV, HNY, HNZ) are fitted to the 101, 110, 130 and 131 hp versions. Please note: similar nominal power outputs can correspond to different turbo references depending on the year of manufacture; the power figure shown on the registration document is not sufficient to identify the correct reference. The 1.6 THP comes in two families: the EP6FDT block for the 150, 156, 163 and 165 hp versions, and the 5FV (EP6CDT) for the 156 hp 16V. These two blocks do not share the same turbo. On the 1.6 THP, insufficient lubrication when the engine is switched off abruptly after hard use is a known cause of turbo failure: letting the engine idle for a few seconds before switching off extends turbo life. All turbos listed on this page are new parts, sold as a straightforward sale.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the turbo new or reconditioned?

The turbos on this page are new. Each product page states the original manufacturer reference and its equivalent references for your Peugeot 208 Turbo.

What warranty comes with the turbo?

Every turbo is guaranteed for 12 months, provided it is fitted by a professional. The warranty covers the part; labour is not included. Before fitting, the cause of the previous failure (lubrication, oil feed, intake leak, EGR / DPF clogging) must be fixed.

Do I need to send back my old turbo?

No. The turbos on this page are new and sold as a straight sale: nothing to send back, your old turbo stays with you and there is one single delivery.

How do I make sure I order the right turbo for my Peugeot 208 Turbo?

Compatibility depends on the engine code and the reference stamped on your turbo, not just on the model. Enter your number plate or request a quote: our advisers confirm the exact reference before you order. You can pay in up to 10 instalments.
