13 engine codes for the Peugeot 208: twelve years of engines that followed one another without replacing each other

Between 2012 and 2024, the 208 spanned two generations and a complete overhaul of its petrol engine range. The earliest models came with units from the PF1 platform — the 1.4 VTi (codes 8FR, 8FP, 8FN, 8F01, EP3C) and the 1.2 VTi 82 (EB2_HMZ) — before Peugeot gradually transitioned to the PureTech family from 2013 onwards. The break is clear-cut: a first-generation 1.4 shares no parts whatsoever with a 1.2 PureTech, even though both engines were available during the same production years.

The PureTech family: three power outputs, distinct codes

The three-cylinder PureTech unit comes in several variants that must be carefully distinguished. The 1.0 PureTech (EB0_ZMZ) is a specific short block with no mechanical relationship to the 1.2 units. Within the 1.2 range, three outputs coexist: the 1.2 PureTech 110 (EB2DT / HNZ), the 1.2 PureTech 130 (EB2ADTS_HNS) and the 1.6 THP (EP6CDTX_5FU), the latter being a full four-cylinder engine. The code stamped on the block remains the only reliable way to identify the exact version: the power output shown on the dashboard is not sufficient, as several codes can correspond to the same engine capacity depending on the year of first registration and the trim level.

The 1.5 BlueHDi: the only diesel in the range

On the diesel side, the 208 offered just one unit during this period: the 1.5 BlueHDi (code YHZ), introduced on the second generation. This four-cylinder direct-injection common-rail engine has no lineage connection with the older 1.4 HDi units found in the 207. It is supplied as a bare engine; ancillary components (turbo, fuel rail, alternator) are not included with the unit delivered and must be reused or replaced separately.
