3008 first generation or second: two engine families that share nothing

The break between the 3008 I (2009–2016) and the 3008 II (from 2016 onwards) is complete on the engine side. The first generation is built around DW10 diesel units and the EP6 / 5F petrol units; the second introduces the DV6FC, DV5RC, DW10FC and the EB2 PureTech. These families are not interchangeable, and choosing a reconditioned engine always starts with identifying the vehicle's generation, then the exact engine code stamped on the block — the same 2.0 HDi can carry codes AHR, AHZ, RH02, TXWA, UFDA or UFDB depending on the year and configuration.

When rebuilding your own block makes sense

For engines where the volume of units in circulation remains limited — in particular the 2.0 BlueHDi 180 (DW10FC_AHW), the 1.5 BlueHDi 130 (DV5RC / YHZ) or the 1.2 PureTech 130 (EB2ADTS / HNS) — rebuilding your own unit can be a useful alternative: your block is reconditioned and returned to you, avoiding any issues with code matching or service history. This is particularly relevant when the engine has localised damage (liners, crankshaft) but the cylinder head and block casing are sound.

Identification points not to overlook

The 1.6 THP comes in codes 5FV and 5FV (EP6CDT); the 1.2 PureTech covers codes EB2DTS_HNY and EB2FDTS_HNY depending on the variant. The 1.6 BlueHDi 120 carries the code DV6FC / BHZ, which is distinct from the 1.5 BlueHDi 130 despite a similar engine capacity. Mixing up these codes when ordering will result in receiving an engine whose mounting points or ancillary outputs do not match. The engine code — not simply the engine capacity or the stated power output — is the only reliable reference for covering 3008 production from 2009 to 2023.
