BMP6 automated manual or 6-speed manual: two very different realities on the 3008

On the Peugeot 3008 from 2009 to 2016, choosing the right reconditioned gearbox is not simply a matter of engine capacity. Two families exist depending on the original specification: the 6-speed manual, fitted across all three engines covered here (1.2 PureTech, 1.6 HDi and 2.0 HDi), and the BMP6, a 6-speed automated manual gearbox available exclusively on the two diesel engines. These two types are not interchangeable: the BMP6 is supplied without its actuator robot, meaning the original actuator must be retained and reused. This is a key point to bear in mind when deciding which unit to order.

Identify your engine before anything else

The 1.6 HDi covers engine codes 9HD, 9HR and 9HZ; the 2.0 HDi corresponds to codes RHE, RHF and RHH. Both diesel engines can be paired with either a manual gearbox or a BMP6, depending on trim level and model year. The 1.2 PureTech petrol — engine codes EB2ADT, EB2ADTS, HNP, HNS and HNY — is available with a 6-speed manual only. The same diesel engine capacity can therefore correspond to two mechanically different gearboxes: always check the type of original gearbox on the manufacturer's plate or the service history to avoid ordering the wrong unit.

When reconditioning your own gearbox makes sense

The range listed here operates on an exchange basis. Reconditioning the customer's own unit — where the vehicle's gearbox is reconditioned and then returned — is not available within this range. This option becomes relevant when the reference is rare or when the gearbox has a particular characteristic tied to the vehicle's history, but it falls under a different process. On the 3008, the BMP6 is considerably less common as a replacement part than the manual, which may point towards an alternative solution if lead times are an issue.
