12 engine codes for the Peugeot 2008: which one determines your gearbox?

On the Peugeot 2008 (2013–2025), it is the engine code stamped on the block that determines the compatible gearbox — not just the engine capacity. Four engines are concerned, each with their own codes: the 1.6 HDi covers the codes 9H06, 9HP and 9HP (DV6DTED); the 1.2 PureTech covers HMZ, HNS, HNY and HNZ; the 1.4 HDi exists only with the code 8HR (DV4C); and finally, the 1.5 HDi comes with DV5RC, DV5RD, YH01 and YHZ. Identifying this code before placing any order prevents compatibility errors.

5-speed manual, 6-speed manual or ETG6: what the code reveals

The 1.6 HDi is the only engine in the 2008 range to have been fitted with an automated gearbox: the ETG6, a 6-speed single-clutch automated transmission. It is sold without the actuator or robot unit, an electronic component that must be sourced separately. All other gearboxes are manual: 5-speed on the 1.6 HDi (codes 9H06/9HP), the 1.2 PureTech (HMZ/HNS/HNY/HNZ) and the 1.4 HDi (8HR); 6-speed on the 1.2 PureTech and the 1.5 HDi. The move from 5 to 6 speeds on the PureTech corresponds to different production years and distinct code variants — HMZ and HNS do not necessarily take the same gearbox as HNY or HNZ.

    Key points by engine

The 1.4 HDi (8HR/DV4C) was only fitted during the early years of the 2008 and has just one gearbox configuration, which makes identification straightforward. The 1.5 HDi, introduced later, gradually replaced the 1.6 HDi as the diesel option and brought new codes (DV5RC, DV5RD, YH01, YHZ) that must not be confused with those of the 1.6. On the 1.6 HDi, the codes 9HP and 9HP (DV6DTED) refer to variants of the same block, but the DV6DTED designation may indicate a different technical specification depending on the year — always checking the full code exactly as it appears on the engine is essential.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a gearbox for this Peugeot model in stock?

We currently list 11 references reconditioned for this model. Availability depends on the exact engine: enter your number plate to confirm stock in real time, or request an online quote.

How can I be sure it is compatible with my Peugeot?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right gearbox for your vehicle before you order.

Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old gearbox (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

How long does it take to receive the gearbox for my Peugeot?

Once compatibility is confirmed and depending on the availability of the reference, the part leaves our workshop ready to fit, delivered throughout France and Europe, with payment in instalments available (up to 10 payments).
