Six engine codes for two engine capacities: why the 2008 makes identification complicated

The Peugeot 2008 spans a long production run, from 2013 to the present day, and two engine families — the 1.2 PureTech petrol and the 1.5 BlueHDi diesel — each available in several variants identified by distinct codes. The 1.2 PureTech alone has four codes: EB2DT_HNZ, EB2ADTS_HNS, EB2F_HMZ and HM01. The 1.5 BlueHDi has two: YHZ and YH01. These codes are not interchangeable between versions; identical power output on the registration document does not guarantee block compatibility.

1.2 PureTech: a sensitive family, four variants to tell apart

The three-cylinder 1.2 PureTech is well documented for timing chain issues on early versions. The generation and power output (110 or 130 hp depending on the model year) affect the engine code, and therefore the block supplied. Checking the code stamped on the engine block is the only reliable way to order the correct reference. On this engine, having your own unit rebuilt can make sense when the block shows localised wear without deep structural damage — though this must be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

1.5 BlueHDi: two codes, a more recent diesel

Introduced on the second-generation 2008, the 1.5 BlueHDi (codes YHZ and YH01) is a more recent block and generally more robust than the 1.2 PureTech. The two codes correspond to internal revisions; here again, only the code stamped on the engine can identify the correct version. All references offered by EDEN BOITES are bare engines, available on an exchange basis: the customer returns their old unit upon receipt of the reconditioned part.
