This is no administrative footnote: two petrol 2008s from close model years can house mechanically different engines. Identifying the code stamped on the block — not simply reading the engine capacity or power output — is the only reliable way to pinpoint the correct part.

PureTech: an evolving engine, several failure variants

The 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder is well known for timing chain issues and excessive oil consumption on certain production runs. These failures can lead to serious internal damage — scored cylinder bores, broken con-rods — which can make rebuilding the original unit difficult if the block is too badly damaged. This bare engine is supplied without its ancillaries (turbo, alternator, starter motor, high-pressure pump). Before placing any order, the code visible on the engine block remains the primary identification reference, taking precedence over the stated power output or the vehicle's registration date.
