Reconditioned Peugeot 5008 Engine

A single 1.6 HDi on the 5008 can hide thirteen distinct engine codes

This is the most common pitfall with the Peugeot 5008: two vehicles both showing "1.6 HDi" on the badge don't necessarily share the same engine. The 1.6 HDi alone covers thirteen different engine codes — among them BH01, DV6DTED, DV6ETED, DV6FC_BHZ, NGDA, NGDB, T1BB, T1DA, T1WA, T1WB, T3DA, T3DB and TZJA. These codes are not interchangeable: an error at the point of ordering leads to a fitment incompatibility. Before anything else, the engine code stamped on the block (or shown on the V5 registration document, section P5) is the only reliable way to identify the correct reference.

Diesel: two engine families across 2009–2024

On the diesel side, the first-generation 5008 (2009–2017) is almost exclusively fitted with DV6 blocks (1.6 HDi and 1.6 HDi 110, the latter carrying the code 9HZ / DV6TED4) and DW10 blocks for the 2.0 HDi — eight codes recorded: AHZ, DW10FC_AHW, DW10FC_EHZ, RH02, TXWA, UBGA, UFDA, UFDB. The second generation (from 2017 onwards) introduces the 2.0 BlueHDi 150, identified by the code AHX (DW10FD), an evolution of the DW10 meeting Euro 6 standards. These two families — DV6 and DW10 — share no internal components; the identical 2.0 engine capacity between the older HDi and the BlueHDi does not mean the blocks are interchangeable.

Petrol: three engines, three architectures

On the petrol side, the 5008 covers three clearly distinct engines. The 1.6 VTi (code 5F02) is a naturally aspirated block with no turbo. The 1.6 THP (codes 5FV and EP6CDT_5FV) is the turbocharged version of the same family, with significantly different mechanical demands. The 1.2 PureTech (code EB2DTS_HNY), a 3-cylinder unit, is exclusive to the second-generation 5008. These three blocks are in no way interchangeable with one another, even where power outputs are similar. The engine code therefore remains the only valid means of identification, regardless of the engine designation shown on the order form or in the vehicle's advertising.
