Peugeot 508 Engine (2010 to 2018): eight engine codes across two generations of blocks

The 508 spans eight years, during which the engine range evolved considerably. On the diesel side, the DW10 family runs throughout the entire production run but comes in distinct variants depending on the year and emissions standard: the codes DW10BTED4_RHF, DW10FC_AHW and DW10FD_AHR belong to the first-phase 2.0 HDi, whilst TXWA, UFBA, UFDA and UFDB denote later variants of the same 2.0 HDi — these codes are not interchangeable. The 2.0 BlueHDi 180 marks the shift to SCR emissions treatment and carries its own code EHZ / DW10FC: similar architecture, but different calibration and equipment, making it a distinct block.

Identify your block precisely before placing an order

On the 2.0 HDi, seven codes exist for a single engine capacity: the mere mention of "2.0 HDi" on the registration document is not enough to determine which one is fitted to the vehicle. The engine code stamped on the block, visible on the gearbox side, is the only reliable reference to cross-check against the details in the file. Confusing DW10FD_AHR with UFBA, for example, can result in a fitment incompatibility.

Petrol blocks: 1.6 THP and 1.6 VTi — two mechanically unrelated families

The 1.6 THP (code 5FV) and the 1.6 VTi (code 5F02) share the same engine capacity but have no parts in common. The THP is a turbocharged block with variable valve timing, known for its sensitivity to timing chain maintenance and oil pressure; the VTi is a naturally aspirated block and considerably simpler. Both petrol engines remain a minority in the 508, as the vast majority of vehicles in this generation were fitted with a 2.0 HDi. All engines listed here are bare engines.
