Peugeot 508 Engine: from 2010 to 2018, several engine variants for the same model

The 508 spans eight years of production (2010–2018), during which Peugeot significantly evolved its powertrains. On the diesel side, the 2.0 HDi was available from launch with engine codes DW10BTED4_RHF, DW10FD_AHR, DW10FC_AHW as well as the variants TXWA, UFBA, UFDA, UFDB — seven versions that are not interchangeable with one another. The 2.0 BlueHDi 180, introduced later, is an entirely separate engine, identified as EHZ / DW10FC, and complies with more recent emissions standards. The 1.5 BlueHDi 130 (engine code DV5RC / YHZ) is the most recent of the three diesel families, introduced towards the end of the production cycle.

The 2.0 HDi pitfall: seven engine codes for the same capacity

The risk of confusion is greatest with the 2.0 HDi. A 508 2.0 HDi from 2011 and one from 2014 may carry engines from entirely different families, depending on the year of manufacture and the power output. Before placing any order, the engine code stamped on the block — not simply the engine capacity or stated power output — is the only reliable means of identification. The codes UFBA, UFDA and UFDB correspond to specific variants that must not be confused with the earlier DW10 units.

Petrol: two 1.6 engines with very different characteristics

The 508 petrol range is built around two 1.6 engines: the 1.6 VTi (engine code 5F02), a naturally aspirated unit suited to urban and mixed driving, and the 1.6 THP (engine code 5FV), a turbocharged engine that is subject to greater mechanical stress. These two engines do not share the same weak points or the same wear intervals. The THP is known for oil consumption and ignition issues on certain production runs; the VTi is structurally simpler but less common on this model. All engines listed here are bare engines.
