207 from 2006 to 2015: 4 engine variants, 14 engine codes, and an automated manual gearbox available exclusively on the 1.4 HDi

The Peugeot 207 was widely used as an everyday urban and suburban runabout: short journeys, frequent cold starts, and a clutch constantly worked in stop-start traffic. This kind of use wears out the synchromesh and clutch long before high mileages are reached, which is why the 5-speed manual gearboxes on these engines so often reach the end of their life without any exceptional mileage on the clock. The variety of engine codes across nine years of production also makes identifying the correct part more complicated.

Petrol: 5FW, 5FX, 5FY, NFU on the 1.6 — KFT, KFV, KFW, TU3A on the 1.4

The 1.6 petrol covers four codes — 5FW, 5FX, 5FY and NFU (TU5JP4) — corresponding to calibration and equipment updates over the model's lifetime. All are fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox, but the gearbox paired with each code is not necessarily identical: the engine code is the key identification criterion to check before placing any order. The 1.4 petrol comes in KFT, KFV, KFW and TU3A, also with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Engine capacity alone does not distinguish between these two families; only the engine code stamped on the block allows the vehicle to be matched to the correct reference.

Diesel: the 1.4 HDi is the only engine variant to offer a BMP5

The 1.4 HDi (codes 8HR and 8HZ) is the only engine in the 207 range to be offered, as an option, with a BMP5 — a 5-speed automated manual gearbox. This transmission is sold without the robot actuator, which is an electrohydraulic component dealt with separately. If your 207 1.4 HDi is fitted with this gearbox, it is essential to state this when ordering: the 5-speed manual gearbox for the same engine is not interchangeable with the BMP5. The 1.6 HDi, meanwhile, is only available with the 5-speed manual gearbox, under codes 9HP, 9HR, 9HX and 9HZ. Here again, four codes for a single upper diesel capacity level: the date of first registration and the engine code remain the two essential checks before making a final identification.
