It is the engine code — not the year or the quoted power output — that determines which gearbox is fitted to your Expert. This is a critical point: ordering without checking the code risks ending up with an incompatible part.

The catalogue covers four engines over the 2000–2016 period: the 2.0 HDi, the 1.6 HDi, the 1.9 HDi and the 2.0 16V petrol. All available gearboxes are manual — 5- or 6-speed depending on the engine and engine code.

2.0 HDi and 1.6 HDi: two gearbox families, three codes each

The 2.0 HDi is the best-covered engine in the catalogue. Depending on whether the block carries the code RHZ, RHK or RHG, the associated gearbox is either 5- or 6-speed — both configurations exist within this engine family. The 1.6 HDi follows the same logic: the codes 9H06, 9H07 and 9HU do not all share the same gearbox. Identifying the code before placing any order is essential here.

1.9 HDi and 2.0 16V: single configurations, less room for error

The 1.9 HDi, identifiable by the code WJZ (DW8), is paired with a single 5-speed manual gearbox only. The 2.0 16V petrol — the only petrol unit in this range — also takes a 5-speed gearbox. These two engines leave less room for identification errors, though they remain a minority in real-world Expert use, a vehicle operated predominantly with diesel power. In intensive commercial use, the synchromesh units in the 5-speed gearboxes fitted to diesel variants are the first components to watch, particularly on vehicles that have accumulated high mileage under load.
