On the Partner, the engine code directly determines which gearbox is compatible

The Partner spans the period from 1996 to 2024 and covers a range of petrol and diesel engines, several of which share the same engine capacity without sharing the same gearbox. Reading the engine code stamped on the block — not the capacity shown on the registration document — is the essential starting point. For example, the three variants of the 1.6 HDi carry distinct codes: 9HW (DV6BTED4), 9HX (DV6ATED4) and 9HP (DV6DTED). These three codes do not all correspond to the same gearbox references and are therefore not interchangeable without verification.

Diesel: clearly distinct engine families depending on the generation

The 1.9 HDi (WJY, WJZ) and the 2.0 HDi (RHY) are engines from the early generations of the Partner, paired with 5-speed manual gearboxes. The 1.6 HDi covers a longer period and, depending on the code, may be fitted with a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, or an ETG6 — the 6-speed automated manual gearbox: this last variant is sold without the actuator. The 1.5 HDi engines (YH01 / DV5RD, YHZ / DV5RC) and the 1.5 BlueHDi 100 (YHY) belong to the most recent generations of the Partner and do not share the same gearboxes as the older 1.6 HDi units, despite sometimes having a similar power output.

Petrol: NFU, EB2DT and EB2ADTS — three codes across two families

The 1.6 petrol engine with code NFU (TU5JP4) belongs to the TU family, found on the early versions of the Partner. The 1.2 PureTech covers two codes: EB2DT and EB2ADTS, the more recent EB2 family, paired with 5- or 6-speed manual gearboxes depending on the exact code. These two petrol families share no gearboxes whatsoever: mixing up the codes means ordering the wrong part.
