The Partner's engine code determines the gearbox – not just the engine capacity

The Peugeot Partner has twelve engine codes spanning the period 1996–2024, and each code corresponds to a specific gearbox. The 9HX (DV6ATED4) and the 9HW (DV6BTED4) both denote a 1.6 HDi, yet their 5-speed manual gearboxes are not the same units. The 9HP (DV6DTED) is the variant that received the ETG6, a 6-speed automated manual gearbox marketed under the name BMP6 — sold without the automated actuator. Relying on engine capacity alone will consistently lead to a misidentification.

Diesel: six codes, two generations of DV blocks

The codes RHY, WJY, WJZ cover the 1.9 HDi and 2.0 HDi engines in the first-generation Partner (from 1996 onwards), all of which take a 5-speed manual gearbox. The DV family then appeared with the 1.6 HDi (9HX, 9HW, 9HP), followed by the 1.5 HDi and 1.5 BlueHDi 100, identified as YH01 (DV5RD) and YHZ (DV5RC). These last two codes apply to the Partner Tepee and the Partner III (post-2018), and they accept only a specific 5-speed manual gearbox designed for the EMP2 platform. Confusing a DV6 with a DV5 is the most common mistake made on this model.

Petrol: NFU, EB2DT and EB2ADTS – three codes across two families

The NFU (TU5JP4) powers the first-generation 1.6 petrol engine and pairs with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.2 PureTech comes in two variants — EB2DT and EB2ADTS — and can take either a 5-speed or 6-speed manual gearbox depending on the power output and the vehicle's year of manufacture. The engine code stamped on the block is the only reliable starting point here to avoid ordering the wrong unit. The code YHY rounds out the list on the recent diesel side, with no direct equivalence to the older DV codes.
