Peugeot 807 from 2002 to 2014: two HDi engines, two distinct gearboxes depending on engine capacity

Throughout the 807's production life, the diesel range was built around just two blocks — but their transmissions differ considerably. The 2.0 HDi takes a 6-speed manual gearbox, whilst the 2.2 HDi is paired with a 5-speed manual. These two units are not interchangeable: identifying the engine capacity is the first step before searching for a replacement part.

2.0 HDi: five engine codes, one 6-speed gearbox

The 2.0 HDi block evolved over the 2002–2014 period through five engine codes: RHK, RHM, RHR, RHT and RHW. Although the gearbox is always 6-speed, the exact reference may vary from one engine code to another. The engine code — stamped on the block and visible in the vehicle's documents — is therefore the key factor in confirming compatibility, beyond the engine capacity alone.

2.2 HDi: two codes, a 5-speed gearbox specific to this block

The 2.2 HDi, less common on the 807, comes in two engine codes: 4HT (DW12BTED4) and 4HW (DW12TED4/DW12ATED4). Its 5-speed manual gearbox is specific to this engine and shares no references with the 6-speed unit from the 2.0 HDi. On a vehicle of this generation, confusing the two engine families is a common mistake when searching for a replacement part: checking the engine code before ordering is essential.
