Transit Diesel 2000–2023: Two Eras, Two Engine Families, Seven Distinct Engines

The Transit's mechanical history falls into two distinct periods. From 2000 to 2014, the vehicle was powered by 1.8 TDCi, 2.4 TDCi and 2.2 TDCi engines born from the Ford-PSA partnership, each covering a clearly defined period with no overlap. From 2015 onwards, Ford switched to its own EcoBlue architecture: the 2.0 EcoBlue took over in the heavier Transit range, while the 1.5 TDCi and 1.5 EcoBlue were fitted to the compact versions. The 2.0 TDCi is a standalone engine, identified by a single engine code (FIFA). Establishing which era an engine belongs to is therefore the essential first step before searching for any reference.

    First Diesel Generation: 1.8, 2.4 and 2.2 TDCi from 2000 to 2014

The 1.8 TDCi (2002–2013) comes in eleven codes, including RWPA, KKDA, FFBA, QYBA among the most common. The 2.4 TDCi (2000–2014) also covers eleven codes — from 244DT à PHFC — with variants depending on power output and year of first registration. The 2.2 TDCi is the most widely represented engine in this range, with thirty-one distinct codes split across two main families: blocks with the prefix CV/CY/DR and codes with the prefix 4H (4H03, 4HG, 4HJ, 4HM, 4HU, 4HV) indicating PSA origin. A 2.2 from 2006 and a 2.2 from 2013 may carry mutually incompatible codes: the manufacture date stamped on the engine plate remains the only reliable reference point.

Second Generation: 1.5 TDCi, 1.5 EcoBlue and 2.0 EcoBlue from 2015 to 2023

The 1.5 TDCi (six codes, including D4FA, XVGA, XXGA) is fitted primarily to the Transit Courier and Custom in entry-level trim. The 1.5 EcoBlue gradually replaced it and has only two codes (Z2GA, ZTGA), which simplifies identification but makes it essential to check the exact year of manufacture to avoid confusing the two 1.5 generations. The 2.0 EcoBlue (2016–2023) covers eleven codes — BC2X, BCFB, BKFA, BKFB, BLFB on the Ford side, and codes with the prefix YLF6, YMF6, YNF6, YMR6, YNR6, YMFS — the distribution of which depends precisely on the model year and declared power output. All engines listed in this collection are available as bare engines.

    Frequently asked questions

Is a engine for this Ford model in stock?

We currently list 73 references reconditioned for this model. Availability depends on the exact engine: enter your number plate to confirm stock in real time, or request an online quote.

How can I be sure it is compatible with my Ford?

Compatibility depends on the engine / gearbox code, not just the model. The most reliable way is your number plate or registration document: our advisers confirm the right engine for your vehicle before you order.

Do I need to send back my old unit?

Yes, that is the principle of an exchange unit: you return your old engine (the core), which we recondition in turn. We arrange transport both ways, so you don't have to handle any logistics.

How long does it take to receive the engine for my Ford?

Once compatibility is confirmed and depending on the availability of the reference, the part leaves our workshop ready to fit, delivered throughout France and Europe, with payment in instalments available (up to 10 payments).
