The Ford Kuga is rarely driven unladen. Light towing, mixed motorway and urban journeys, a boot that's regularly put to work — this usage profile subjects the powertrain to thermal and mechanical stresses well beyond those of a typical family saloon. When the engine reaches the end of its life — excessive oil consumption, loss of compression, persistent smoke — replacement with a reconditioned unit is often the most economically sound solution for a vehicle of this size. The key is identifying the correct unit precisely, because the Kuga's engine range between 2014 and 2019 is more fragmented than it might appear.

The 2.0 TDCi dominates the range, but six engine codes coexist

The most common engine on this generation is the 2.0 TDCi, which alone covers six distinct references: UFDA, T7MA, T7CF, T7CE, G6DG and DW10FD. These codes do not refer to the same unit: they have different manufacturer origins, distinct internal specifications, and cannot be substituted for one another without prior verification. Confusion is common because the engine capacity and quoted power output can be identical across versions. Only the engine code — visible on the block itself or in the vehicle's technical documentation — can resolve the ambiguity. This is the essential starting point before placing any order.

1.5 EcoBoost and 1.5 TDCi: two units, two applications

The 1.5 EcoBoost (engine code M8MA) is the only petrol engine in the range. More susceptible to the short thermal cycles associated with the urban and suburban use typical of the Kuga, this turbocharged unit can develop head gasket issues or oil consumption problems over time. The 1.5 TDCi (engine code XWMB) is the entry-level diesel for the Kuga during this period. All units offered here are sold as bare engines: ancillary components (turbo, fuel injection system, alternator) are not included and should be reused or replaced separately depending on their condition.
