Between 2000 and 2014, the Transit 2.4 TDCi received no fewer than 11 distinct engine codes — from D2FA to PHFC, including 244DT, JXFA and H9FA. This variety is not trivial: it reflects power output changes (from 90 to 140 hp depending on the variant), cylinder head revisions and injection differences that make these blocks non-interchangeable. Before doing anything else, the code stamped on the engine is the essential starting point.

When reconditioning your own unit is the right solution

The 2.4 TDCi is an older engine, and certain variants — particularly the earliest codes such as D2FA, D2FB and D2FE — are becoming difficult to source on an exchange basis. For these rare or end-of-availability engines, having your own block reconditioned (the customer sends in their unit and receives it back fully reconditioned) is often the only practical solution: it guarantees an exact engine code match and removes the risk of supply issues. For more common codes such as PHFA or JXFC, exchange from stock remains a straightforward option. In all cases, the engine is sold as a bare unit.
