Manual, automatic or automated manual gearboxes: which Nissan transmission suits your model and driving needs?

The Nissan range is exceptionally broad, spanning from the compact 1.0 city car to the Navara 2.5 dCi 4WD pick-up, taking in the Qashqai, Juke and X-Trail SUVs along the way. This diversity is reflected directly in the transmissions available: 5- or 6-speed manual gearboxes, and the Quickshift automated manual gearbox (no clutch pedal, but not a dual-clutch unit as such) — and, for heavier commercial vehicles such as the NV400 and Primastar, specific configurations tied to the 2.3 dCi M9T. For recent petrol models — the Juke or Qashqai 1.2 DIG-T (HR12DDT, HRA2DDT) or 1.6 DIG-T (MR16DDT) — the 6-speed manual is the standard choice, while the Quickshift is an automated manual: it is sold without its actuator, which means the condition of that component must be checked separately.

Diesel: three engine families, three identification approaches

Diesel makes up the bulk of the catalogue, with three main families. The K9K (1.5 dCi) is fitted to the Micra, Note, Juke and certain Qashqai models: its variants are numerous — K9K282, K9K636, K9K646, K9K700, K9K804 among others — and are not all interchangeable, depending on power output (65, 82, 90, 103, 110 hp) and year. The M9R (2.0 dCi, codes M9R692 to M9R833) covers mainly the Qashqai and X-Trail. The M9T (2.3 dCi, codes M9T670 to M9T898) is the reference unit for the NV400, Primastar and Interstar commercial vehicles, with twin-turbo variants (M9T870, M9T890, M9T898) that are distinct from the single-turbo versions. On the Navara and certain older X-Trail models, the YD25DDTi (2.5 dCi) appears with its own variants, and the 4WD versions require a transfer case — the only unit of this type in the catalogue.

The Qashqai leads the way, but the X-Trail, Juke and commercial vehicles each have their own particularities

The Qashqai accounts for the greatest number of references across all part types, followed by the NV400 and Primastar around the 2.3 dCi M9T. On the turbo side, the catalogue covers both reconditioned units and new turbos, principally for the 1.5 dCi, 2.0 dCi and 2.3 dCi diesel engines. A single engine code can correspond to several gearboxes depending on the axle ratio, the presence or absence of 4WD, and the year of production: on the Qashqai 2.0 dCi, for example, checking the engine code and the year is essential before placing any order. The catalogue spans from 1988 to 2024, meaning that models such as the Patrol 4.2 TD (TD42, TD42T) or the Terrano 2.7 TD (TD27TI) sit alongside recent Juke and Pulsar models.

    Are reconditioned Nissan parts reliable?

Yes. Every Nissan part is reconditioned in our workshop, with wear parts replaced, bench-tested and guaranteed for up to 24 months. A reliable and far more affordable alternative to new, starting from a restored original part.

How does the exchange system work for a Nissan part?
