Symptoms of a failing turbo on the Nissan Patrol 3.0 DTi
On the Nissan Patrol Y61 fitted with the ZD30DDTI engine, a worn turbo typically makes itself known through a gradual loss of power under acceleration, an unusual whistling noise from the engine bay, persistent blue or black exhaust smoke, and sometimes an engine warning light on the dashboard. Excessive oil consumption or the presence of oil in the intake circuit are also tell-tale signs of worn bearings or internal seals on this type of variable-geometry turbocharger.
Compatibility of the new turbo for the Patrol 3.0 DTi/Di
This new turbo is compatible with reference 723739-5003S, a part found on the Nissan Patrol Y61 in its 3.0 DTi and 3.0 Di versions, powered by the ZD30DDTI diesel engine (also designated ZD30ETI) with an engine capacity of 2953 cm³. Before placing an order, we recommend checking the reference printed on the label of the old turbo once removed, to ensure an exact match with your vehicle.

Exchange basis and warranty on this Patrol turbo
This new turbo is sold on an exchange basis: the old turbocharger must be returned in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, but this return only takes place after delivery and fitting of the new part, so the Patrol is not left off the road. The product comes with a 12-month parts warranty, provided fitting is carried out by a qualified professional. Payment can be spread over several instalments, in up to 10 instalments.
Fitting advice for the Patrol ZD30 turbo
Before installation, it is essential to check the condition of the oil circuit (hoses and return line) to rule out any risk of blockage or leaks that could quickly damage the new turbo. Also check the cleanliness of the air filter and the integrity of the intake system — the air inlet upstream of the turbo must be free of any foreign matter. On this diesel engine, the quality and frequency of oil changes play a decisive role in the longevity of the turbocharger, as does the condition of the intercooler, which should be inspected for any cracks. When starting up for the first time, prime the turbo with oil before the initial engine start, then avoid hard driving for the first few kilometres to allow the lubrication system to stabilise properly.
