Same F9Q or M9R engine, two different gearboxes: why the engine code changes everything with Opel

On a diesel Vivaro or Movano, the engine code stamped on the block is the essential starting point. A F9Q 760 and a F9Q 772 are both 1.9 CDTi units, yet they do not take the same gearbox. Likewise, the variants M9R780, M9R782 and M9R692 (2.0 CDTi Vivaro) correspond to distinct references depending on the generation and power output. The codes G9U630, G9U730, G9U632 and G9U650 cover the 2.5 CDTi versions of the Movano: same engine capacity, different gearbox configurations. Identifying the engine code before placing any order prevents you from receiving an incompatible part.

Petrol: engine code families that cannot be substituted for one another

On the petrol side, the situation is the same. On the Astra, Meriva and Corsa, the codes Z18XE, Z18XER and X18XE1 denote three variants of the 1.8 16v with closely related architectures but different gearbox pairings. The A14NET (1.4 Turbo, Astra J / Mokka) takes a 6-speed manual gearbox, whereas the B12XHL and EB2DT (1.2 and 1.2 Turbo, Corsa E/F, Adam, Crossland) work with 5-speed gearboxes. For the 1.3 CDTi, the codes Z13DTH and A13DTE cover two generations of the Corsa and Combo with references that are not interchangeable.

5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, Easytronic, Tecshift: transmissions not to be confused

The Opel catalogue from 1998 to 2024 combines 5-speed manual gearboxes, 6-speed manuals, the automated manual Easytronic (Corsa C/D, Meriva A) and the Tecshift (Vivaro van). The Easytronic and Tecshift are automated manual gearboxes: they are supplied without the robot unit or the electrohydraulic actuator, which are separate components. On the Vivaro, the number of references is particularly extensive — 59 configurations — owing to the many engine code / ratio / wheelbase combinations found on this model between 2001 and 2024. The model, the engine variant and the engine code remain the three pieces of information needed before identifying the correct reference within the PK6, PF6 or 20MB families.
