The Third Generation
With the third generation, Mini launched the Cooper SE Cabrio, the first fully electric Mini Cabriolet, offered as a limited edition, while petrol and diesel versions continued. Engine capacities moved to 1.5 L and 2.0 L, with power reaching 231 bhp on the Mini 3 Cooper 2.0 L turbocharged petrol. The manual gearbox remained the Getrag 6-speed, but three automatic gearboxes now coexist:
- the Aisin 6-speed automatic gearbox;
- the DCT 7-speed automatic gearbox;
- the Steptronic 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The DCT is a dual-clutch automatic: two separate clutches each control a set of ratios, enabling faster and smoother gear changes.
