Reconditioning follows a rigorous process: the gearbox is fully stripped down, every component is cleaned and inspected, worn gears, synchros, bearings and seals are replaced, and the unit is reassembled to manufacturer tolerances before a final bench test.

On a Master used as a heavy-duty van, several warning signs point to gearbox wear: gear changes becoming stiff or jerky, crunching when selecting second or reverse, juddering through the clutch during gear changes, a low rumbling noise that worsens under acceleration, or a gear jumping out on the motorway.
